So, what's our best forward line when Diouf, Assaidi and Moses head off for the Africa Cup of Nations?
If Odemwingie is back fit, presumably he won't be going (unless he comes out of retirement again!), but what if not?
I could only see Walters and Arnie as genuine wide options, as Ireland, Adam and Bojan wouldn't do the defensive stuff.
Unless we get another wide player in come January?

Have all the respective countries qualified?

Have all the respective countries qualified? Good point, obviously I'm also assuming they will all be picked, which you would expect, but you never know.

Well we have Crouch! - not on the wing but a pivotal role at the front We have Alabi out on loan for just one month - (unlikely to feature but he is with us) and of course we have the January transfer window where another loan may make sense MH could always slot in if we are looking for an experienced goalscorer.

Assume we'll have to spend or bring in a foreign loan or two in Jan?

Would we be able to make another loan signing? Last year we had to buy Ireland outright to bring Guidetti in.

As Rob said, I think we can still get foreign loans though, just not inter-PL ones.

Morocco are hosts so looks like Assaidi will be there AFCON QualifyingQualifying for Nigeria and Senegal doesn't look totally straightforward, but suppose you'd back them to get there as 2 of the better nations Tournament runs from 17th Jan to 8th Feb and presumably they have to meet up a fortnight or so in advance? Could miss an FA Cup match and at least a couple of important Premier League games assuming they have to join up after the third round of the Cup. Stoke V Man Utd Thu 1 Jan
FA Cup Round 3 Sat 3 Jan
----------------------- Arsenal V Stoke Sat 10 Jan
Leicester V Stoke Sat 17 Jan
FA Cup Round 4 Sat 24 Jan
Stoke V QPR Sat 31 Jan
Newcastle V Stoke Sat 7 Feb

Stoke V Man City Wed 11 Feb

Expecting anything of Shea now is rather far-flung in my opinion, January time I expect Crouch with either Bojan or SJW up top, which I think for a month or so, should be ok

Assaidi hasn't played for his country in 2014, he played for them twice in 2013 and once in 2012.

Didn't Nigeria drop Moses (and Odemwingie who was fit at the time) for the ACN qualifiers over the next few days?? If so hopefully Moses won't be affected... unless he has a great run of form for us... bugger - can't win either way.

Nigeria have lost 3-2 at home to Congo.
So we've now got 2 hopes of keeping Moses throughout January - him continuing to not be picked and them not qualifying

Assaidi hasn't played for his country in 2014, he played for them twice in 2013 and once in 2012. I'm not sure you can read too much into that. He was injured/not fit for every Moroccan game in 2014 and in 2012/2013 he was not playing club games at Liverpool until he joined Stoke. A decent first half of this season and he might well be in the Moroccan squad for the ACON.

It is possible that we were close with a signing in the summer but it just didn't happen (someone like Yarmolenko)and with their contract running down January may be the Club's last chance to secure a transfer fee - who knows but guess it will be interesting to see how LMH deals with the Africa Cup of Nations but he is clearly a Manager who is well prepared and wants to do things early....
