Its pretty hilarious to see Stoke go from being "linked" to a guy like Lee Catermole to guys like Scott Sinclair and Aaron Lennon in just a single year.

I personally don't see much difference between them players in terms of talent.

I would still have Cattermole to be honest, I know Sidwell was free but we seem to be a bit short on cloggers in the centre at the moment (who'd have thought it), would have mad3 more sense to me than another attacking minded box to boxer.

Lennon - past his best? Arguably Sinclair - complete waster. More interested in cash and shagging his missus. Cattermole - would have been a great signing.

I guess you really only have Whelan and Sidwell to play in that role where you probably have a few other options to play up top. Ive always wondered how Cameron might fare in the Whelan/Nzonzi position. i wasnt necessarily implying that AL and SS are on a higher level than Cattermole... it just seems indicative of the shifting style. Correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt Cattermole have been the perfect player for the Pulis type of tactics? Didnt think on that style team there would have been much of a place for someone like Aaron Lennon.

I'd love cattermole even now personally. He's a bit of a throwback. You'd know if he tackled you, and definitely know if he got it wrong. Adam is a bit similar, but he just always gets it wrong. Lennon would have actually suited the pulis system well. He's a bit of an etherington in the way he's direct, and quick. Sparkey prefers to play wingers who cut in and shoot in the mould of Arnie and Assaidi. Lennon will get to the by line and cross in the way that an old fashioned winger would.

Don't over think our club, we are a bit rough and ready, but we do ok. It's not going to be fun every week, but the experience could be life changing . Just remember the Oatcake motto, " be loyal, be proud, be Stoke"!

Welcome Yankee, the more fans from across the pond the better i say.
I agree with you that going from being linked with Cattermole to Lennon in terms of stature is an excellent sign of our progress, maybe not so much Sinclair but your new to the league so i'll let you off that one LOL.
Anyone that say's Lennon isn't a bigger name than Cattermole is seriously deluded, no matter whether you think Cattermole plays better Lennon is a house hold name and to be in with a shot of getting him is a good indication of how far we have come.

one of my pals that I talk football with is actually a swans fan and he was pretty gutted when City scooped up Sinclair a few years ago so maybe im a bit deluded to his value on that front. Clearly hes taken quite a fall from grace since I havent heard much about him since then.

Clearly hes taken quite a fall from grace since I havent heard much about him since then. He was very good For Swansea in the Championship and did ok for them in the Premiership but after moving to Man City her has gone backwards. He did nothing at West Brom during his loan that would suggest he could add much too a mid level premier league team like us.

I agree, Cattermole would have been a good signing to provide an alternative to Whelan - with a bit more bite. On balance (and given that it would have been a loan) I think I'd have preferred Lennon to Assaidi - Lennon is the more complete player and would provide more assists than Assaidi will, I think. But I'm ok with Assaidi especially as he stays on his Liverpool wages. Agree about Sinclair - he may not have lost it, but he has to prove that, and I'd rather he did it somewhere other than at Stoke.

Also isn't Cattermole almost 5 years younger than Whelan? He's Captained Sunderland for a couple of seasons and I'm pretty sure his disciplinary record is much better now than many give him credit for. Sent from my GT-I9192 using proboards
