The fastest we have ever had by a very very long way . He could run 100 metres in under 11 secs and I'm sure I heard he could have been an International sprinter. I've not seen anyone since from any club past or present as quick. He could give anyone 10 yards and beat them. You knew every time he would beat the defender.

OK - I'm a very old man, but Roy Brown was probably the fastest player I ever saw play for Stoke. He played regularly in our forward-line between 1948-1950 in the old First Division.

Who is? Diouf is pretty rapid, only moses could give him competition. You've answered the question in your question, Odemwingie isn't slow neither. Just another bizarre morningmist situation where he's suggesting Diouf is the paciest Stoke City player ever. The mind boggles sometimes, if not all the time. Is that so ridiculous? Diouf looks like a scorched cat to me. Statistically it's Kenwyne isn't it? Obviously that's not with a ball at his feet, or anywhere near him...

Without any shadow of a doubt our fastest ever player ever was Harry Connor, who as an amateur was signed from Marine FC in Merseyside, he could move like greased lightning and had actually won the prestigious Powderhall professional sprint, trouble was he was no great shakes as a footballer despite scoring in his first match and at least one more goal in the half a dozen or so games he played for the first team, this happenened in the early 50s

Although before their respective spells at the club, in 2008 Kenwyne was recorded as the 4th fastest player in the Premier League, with Jerome coming in 7th place.

Don ratcliffe would have been through the boothen end gates before the others had blinked I was just gonna mention this guy and ask a bit more about him. I know he was a good few decades before I was born, but I was recently given a box of old Stoke programmes from an old woman I know whose husband had just died. In the box was a home made rattle with "Go on Ratta" painted on the side. A bit of research told be it's in relation to Don Ratcliffe, but I don't know anything about him other than him being rapid. Any more info?

Don Ratcliffe was very fast and a hell of a grafter what surprised every body was that he was a smoker, as far as I know he is still alive.

Depends on the distance, remember watching an interview with a Spurs player and he said over a 100m Younes Kaboul would always beat Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale in a sprint.

As a boy Stanley Matthews competed in the Victoria Ground August Bank Holiday races, when there was a red cinder 440 yard track round the pitch. He beat runners much older than himself. There were different age group races and extensive betting. He started at the age of 6 and beat boys twice his age and won the under 15s 100 yards with a generous 45 yard handicap, but won by "many yards" according to the Sentinel. He competed for many years and won 4 times including his last year as a 14 year old on a scratch handicap. He didn't continue racing but always made sprinting a key part of his training, which he was
As a player he was renowned for being able to push the ball into a space and beat anyone over 10 yards to it.
Diouf certainly had a head of steam up on Saturday. It is difficult to judge running speed. Just because someone has high cadence it does not mean they are travelling that fast, it also depends on the stride length. Terry Conroy had a huge stride and would cover the ground exceedingly fast, often running round defenders, like some rugby wingers.

Don Ratcliffe was very fast and a hell of a grafter what surprised every body was that he was a smoker, as far as I know he is still alive. He certainly is - or at least he was very much so at the "150 Year" game last season where he rose to the occasion and did a couple of sprints to please the crowd. He was still quick for a bloke of about 80. That was great to see. They always reckoned they had a man to open the gates when he got into top gear. Great character.
