Has anyone official from Stoke confirmed the extent of the injury or is it still being assessed? That is the question I keep asking. Only thing I have seen is the Scholes comment above in the context of the Assaidi signing that wingie is out for the "foreseeable future". My best guess is that they are still assessing it but the portents are very grim.

Well he reckons he'll be back in time for when we are making an appearance at Wembley for one of the cup finals!
Peter Odemwingie @odemwingiep We have a strong squad that will do great in the league and I will be back well in time for the wembley finals.

His contract with us in up in June (signed for 18 months in the last January window) and the FA Cup Final will be in May. I wish him all the luck in the world but I don't have a great feeling about this.

I know absolutely sod all about the physiology of this injury but the only thing that makes me think it's not ACL is that he didnt go down like a sack of spuds and he wasn't in absolute agony on the deck. I did mine when I was 17 playing football and its the most pain i've ever felt. Lets just hope it's good news. Same as me ************** I know fuck all about the anatomy of the knee. However after studying that picture I am pretty sure that is exactly how his leg was positioned when he grimaced and went down.

Even though footballers earn an obsence amount of money, which makes me usually show a lack of sincerity when they get injured, I have to admit I do feel sorry for Peter O.
He has come in, done a fantastic job and for me would have been a starter every week.
I really hope we do not miss him too much, but more importantly, hope we get to see him play in a Stoke shirt once again.
Get well soon Pete.

I was wondering what will happen with his contract situation now, it's not like he can earn himself an extension by playing well is it, Stoke may offer him another year as a goodwill gesture perhaps i.e. Sidibe?

Yeah, possibly, but he will be 34 in July of next year and for someone so reliant on his coruscating pace you think to yourself he has a huge challenge in front of him to get back both physically and mentally. Just looked him and Fuller up and I know he kept himself in great shape but he is only 1 year and 3 months younger than frickin' Ric.

As I said above, assuming he makes good progress by June when his contract expires, why not offer him a monthly contract to give him time to prove his fitness and then, assuming he does show form and fitness then offer him one to June 2016 if the medics and the manager reckon he is worth it.

Was it Wayne Thomas who had a cruciate injury (at Burnley?) and made a ridiculously quick recovery in weeks rather than months?

If its a cruciate injury I thought it was 9 months minimum.

Might not be his ACL. Could be any of the other ligaments or meniscus all of which are a lot quicker recovery times.

If its a cruciate injury I thought it was 9 months minimum. Hence PO's references to being back in good time for Wembley perhaps? Sept,Oct,Nov,Dec,Jan,Feb,Mar,Apr,May = 9 months Everyone always thinks they are a bit special and will come in at the shorter end of the recovery time spectrum.

If its a cruciate injury I thought it was 9 months minimum. New surgery options have reduced it to 6 months if recovery is good. Falcao was almost back for the world cup in 5 months.

If he's back fit by March/April just offer a 12 mth extension. Wouldnt cost much in the grand scheme of things.

Where's bloody Chriskamarasperm? Is that some new form of alternative therapy? I know he caught a bag-snatcher in Brazil, but I don't think even he could cure a ruptured cruciate simply by spaffing on the patient's knee.

Unfortunately for Michael Owen (also a pace man) it was effectively a career ender Owen's form had been in decline since the age of 22, and he suffered all sorts of injuries prior to that horrendous collapse we all saw in an England shirt. It's not a good comparison for me.

Perhaps a 1 year contract extension offered ASAP might send out a positive message. i.e. at Stoke we look after our own. Long term benefits to SCFC re signing Delap whilst out for ages were amazing. but Rory wasn't already 33 at the time....to be fair there's a limit to how much of a "long term benefit" we can get with someone who's probably only got 1 year left (2 at a big push) in this league anyway. i see what you're saying and it would be nice to be loyal to him but to compare it to the rory situation just isn't a fair comparison. just hope it's not as bad as the media made out and he's back before the end of the season It's not about being nice,it's about doing the right thing for SCFC and I believe it would be a reminder to all that this a club who looks after you. Whether he comes back A1 or not it would pay dividends with the other players. We have become a club players want to be at and the deal's for Rory and Sidebe when injured were part of that.

a wonder what insurance the lad has in place for loss of earnings and do the clubs insurance look after him if say it happened on the last few weeks of a contract

He is contracted to us up to June of next year and presumably we will pay him in full up to that date along with covering all his medical expenses.

I would imagine (a guess but based on my experience of how the world works these days) that most bonuses are team related and everyone receives them whether they are playing, on the bench, not selected or injured since it is all about "The Group" these days right? I don't really understand the nuance behind the 2nd part of your question. Had PO been injured in this way in April of next year rather than last Saturday the club would still pay his wages up to the end of his contract. Are you thinking about medical expenses after the end of his contract? If so I don't know how that would work but I am sure it would be covered in the small print somewhere.

only curious on the basis that in most all other walks of life if you were to pick up a work place injury that prevented you from earning your living it would be your employers insurance that would foot the bill, but i doubt that football follows the same rules, not that it would really matter given the vast sums premier league footballers earn
