Funny that. We think the same. Wait till they start getting the tape measures out about attendances. Pricks to a man. You have really pissed them off T.O!! Good work petal!

An absolute shitter of a draw by any measure you care to put on it. It's almost impossible to imagine anything more joyless than a trip to a half empty stadium of light. And some chance of losing the game too to compound the misery

Wow. You lot don't like us very much do you?? I've always had a soft spot for Stoke since I was at Staffs Uni in the mid-90s and still in touch with a few Boothen-enders. Went to a few games at the old stadium, including the infamous night against Newcastle when the fuzz thought I was one of them because of my accent!
What's the reason behind the hatred? I can't remember any big issues/controversies in recent matches - always thought we were similar clubs in the 90s - decrepit stadiums in the middle of a residential area, loyal support, underachieving teams with an owner who had no money.
Anyway, think it's a decent draw for us - home game and we seem to love the League Cup these days. Would have preferred an easier tie against a smaller/lesser team (Burton, MK Dons, Newcastle) but at least it's at home.
Don't really give a shit about attendances (although we see obsessed with them since moving to the SOL) and don't blame you if you don't bring many up - it's not the best trip on a Weds night.
Would imagine there is a torrent of abuse coming my way, so best of luck to you (apart from when we play you of course!)

The reasons as far as I'm concerned are some of the absolute pipes from your site that used to come on here spouting utter horseshit and the general "we're the best team in the world" attitude that (certainly used to) dominates your message board. I have total indifference to Sunderland as a club and I'm sure the majority of its fans are absolutely fine but the impression hasn't been helped by the visitors we've had on here and some of the drivel about us we've read on RTG. As for the draw, it's a wank one for both clubs but a very winnable one for both as well. Hope this helps.

Fair points mate Me I come from a family of Geordies ( Consett / Stanley ) and who are split down the middle re support and a brother who is an NUFC st holder When I go back for various reasons I find in the pubs many are knowledgable and gracious to other clubs but many from both sides are totally fucking deluded who think NUFC and SAFC are on akin to Man Urd, Liverpool etc etc Given the reason that the catchment area is huge for those clubs and have no competition I find it utter bollocks to hear them talk like they are giants Draw a circle within 60 miles of Stoke and look at how many clubs there are to compete with for support in surrounding areas then do the same with Sunderland and Newcastle ....in fact draw it 90 miles I just laugh at em and that's the reason for me

Would imagine there is a torrent of abuse coming my way, so best of luck to you (apart from when we play you of course!) Until Captainfishwaste turned up on here under the pretense of being a friendly, knowledgeable visiting supporter I had no ill feeling toward Sunderland at all. In fact I always quite liked and respected them and enjoyed a trip to the SOL or Roker Park before that. Then he showed his true colours after we beat you, gave all the usual bollocks and even proceeded at one point to defend David Meyler (and Danny Rose I think) after they blatantly cheated and showed himself to be the bitter deluded spunkbubble that he is. He even argued that Michael Turner should be in the England squad and was an infinitely better defender and prospect than Ryan Shawcross. From that point on, any affection I had for Sunderland disappeared and any Mackem visitors we have here are generally treated with contempt because of him and some other tool (NQDiscopants??). Your visit seems a reasonable one though so you will be treated reasonably by most until you prove to be the same as our other Mackem visitors. It is a wank draw and not because it is a tie we can't win. It is a wank journey on a Wednesday night for a cup tie that most people don't give a flying fuck about. I'll be there though. Round of golf in the afternoon and head into town pre-match. I predict a Stoke City victory on penalties in a game played out, in the main, between 2 reserve sides.

I always find it interesting how clubs supporters state Stoke is a shithole.
Now lets be honest Stoke town centre is not the most solubrious of places but it gives me a wonderfull saturday out every two weeks in its pubs.
i doubt many daft Sunderland fans even realise the make up of our city and Newcastle under Lyme.Daft twats .
How many of these supporters have actually visited the City ,or just been dropped off a coach by the ground or visited the local uni bar by the station..
I went to visit family in Leek last week and it really got me thinking how wonderfull the surrounding countryside areas of Stoke on trent are, travel 4-5 miles in any direction and the views and areas are wonderfull.Newcastle ,Ashley to the West,Leek to the East ,Stone etc South and Mow Cop North.
Yes our city is downtrodden and poor ,but god on my travels i see some shitholes ,dont get me started on Gillingham.
Ps for and Sunderland fans reading ,wow you get 40,000 mshould be ashmed what you actually achieve then.

Seems a bit Internet driven and simply the fact RTG hates Oatcake, and the other way round. I can't tell if it's even based on much other than what's on those boards. What I will say, I do think your fans have this strange belief that you play... or should play really good football. I don't know where it's come from but I remember 606 callers from Sunderland and these bizarre suggestions that you were somehow this great passing team. At the time, you had Kenwyne Jones up front for you, so let's be honest you were pretty direct... and you're pretty direct now. For what it's worth I think Poyet is doing a great job with a very limited team. I'm sure you'll admit there's not too much talent flying around in your team (Johnson maybe the exception) and Poyet has made them a difficult team to play against. We would have quite happily taken Burton, MK Dons etc before you.

Never considered them to be rivals.

Why do we wind ourselves up about them?
They are typical North East folk, lacking an ability to understand pretty much anything, let alone football.
They voted Danny Collins player of the season.... twice.
I'm not sure it was intentional though. Maybe they were given a squad sheet and as most of them are bare chested illiterates they just ticked random boxes and somehow DC got the most votes.
If it was intentional (maybe they used pictures) then it's even more condemning.
They also sound really fucking stupid.

Please don't tell people about the beautiful countryside that surrounds us, it is meant to be a secret. Stoke town is awful by any standards, but that is similar to any declining industrial area that is starved of regeneration funds. The surrounding area however is beautiful countryside enjoyed by many.

Probably the worst draw we could have had. Fucking miles away, crap away following, boring game, cold, wet, late. Literally shit. It'll probably go to penalties with no shots on target for either team. Also, why do we never play them on a weekend? It always seems to be a mid week game. Maybe the police have taken the messageboard dislike seriously. It's just indescribably shit. Sorry.

Is this thread STILL bubbling on? FFS, IF we are going to have a good cup run, we are going to have to face better teams than fucking Sunderland. Saying that, if we took a page out of their book (for a successful, defiant cup run against the odds), we would have a great shot of winning the cup. Lets get fucking at them and move one step closer to Wembley way.
