Only just got round to posting this but I was in New York for the first game of the season. I arrived just before KO and raced over to Manhattan from Brooklyn with the intention of watching the game at the so-called NY branch of the Stoke supporters club. I got there about 20 mins before things kicked off and the pub was still closed. The guy cleaning told me to come back in 10 minutes, which I did. I was greeted by an Irishman who's first words were "oh, are Stoke playing today?" He was then adamant that the match wasn't on despite NBC showing all the matches in the US this season. He scrolled through the channels but as it happened, they just hadn't paid for the full package. By this point, the match was kicking-off so I raced off out of the bar and managed to find somewhere else showing the match - Nelly Spillane's, another Irish bar which I can recommend. Missed the first 15 minutes in the end.
Stoke supporters club my arse. If ever you're in New York, don't bloody bother.

I was in NY on that day too. I checked out Fitzgeralds and didn't trust it. They said they would be open at 10 which I wasn't into anyway because I wanted watch the shit game first. The barman at the time didn't seem terribly interested in the fact it was a Stoke pub and knew little about it all.... which is all fair enough but advertising themselves as such is a bit deceptive. So I watched the Villa game elsewhere like you.

AFAIK the guy who started it all there sold up and moved on and the new owners must have kept the memorabilia for a bit of sporting authenticity.
It's a shame you missed out and its not as good as it was, I went there on two separate visits and watched the game, chatted with the staff about Stoke for hours and one of those times the owner was on holiday but the barman rung him and he asked him to invite me to a darts competition or similar that night so he could have a chat about Stoke

There was only one bit of memorabilia and that was a flag thing in a glass frame. I asked if they would put a Stoke scarf up I'd taken and the barman seemed a bit indifferent.

The guy moved to legends bar right by the empire state building, its part of another bar downstairs in the same building. They even had the Stoke vs Man City game on in the FA cup 4th round 2013 when I went and that was at 7am

The last two times I've been over I've watched Stoke in the Red Lion in Bleeker St. They have a number of games on each Saturday. Plenty of other bars nearby and a good number with live music in the evening.
For the Fulham game last season the barman rang the bell each time we scored, much to the annoyance of some adjacent shit fans, and he gave me a free pint.
Regarding Fitzgeralds. I've been twice, don't bother. Ok part of town, pretty laid back with a number of bars, particularly Irish bars.

From what I remember it changed ownership just over two years ago (thread from 2012)

A few locals even bought me a pint as they thought i was mad to be watching the game. I guess they don't understand our die hard attitude for the team. I even got a free shirt of the owner. Shame we lost

I was actually looking for Legends once I knew fitzgerald's was a no-go but ran into the other bar first and didn't want to miss any more of the game (not that I missed much anyway!)

Watched the Villa game last year on NYStokie's recommendation at the Cricketer's Arms on Murray St..,downtown (http://thecricketersarmsnyc.com/). I understood the owner to be from Stoke. He wasn't there, but I highly recommend it. Of course, it helped that we won 4:1.

Staying in Brooklyn so cricketers is a bit closer but mrs chinup might fancy a look around 5th ave etc while we're there. Ps will there be any probs for my 14 year old son coming with me? Are these purely bars or do they do food as well?

I know many places have a rule which is people under the age of 21 can't sit at the bar so arrive early to ensure a comfortable spot.

Hi Mate, I had exactly the same thing back in April when we played Spuds. Dragged the misses out to find Fitzgeralds, when we got there they were shut and the bloke who answered the door was about as helpful as the clap. Luckily i made it to Legends which by all accounts is a Villa pub, was sound though. NYC supporters club = tossers!!

I saw Arse v Palace and there were plenty of fans of both.... despite there being an Arse pub called Blind Pig in NY.
