I agree, at this time last season we'd played 2 Premier League matches going into a home League Cup match against Walsall. Hughes team for the game in the league against Palace was... Begovic Cameron Huth Shawcross Pieters Wilson Nzonzi Walters Adam Etherington Crouch Then for the League Cup tie... Sorensen Wilkinson Huth Shawcross Muniesa Whelan Palacios Pennant Adam Shea Jones So 8 changes for that one. Pompey are on a good run at the moment, won 4 on the trot and drew their first league game prior to that. I don't think they'll be the pushovers a few may expect them to be. I hope they are though.

That back 4 is what we need. Plus I like the midfield layout and the personnel chosen.

Wouldn't stray too far from our first choice team, they need competitive game time together to gel.

I'll answer before anyone asks it, there won't be any streams on Wednesday.
I have a question though, to get to the upper section in The Q-Railing Stand, where are the stairs to go up? Are they located by the refreshment stands?
Odd question maybe, but in all these years i've never even once sat in the John Smiths/Q-Railing/Flamingo Sky upper section so guide me.

I wouldn't make massive changes, the first team need time on the pitch together:
----------------Butland------------------
Bardsley -- Shawcross -- Huth / Tex -- Muniesa
-----------NZonzi-----Sidwell-------------
--Wingie ----------Bojan------------Moses--
-----------------Diouf--------------------

Not a chance that Hughes will do this but if it was me I'd like to try some serious experimenting.
There's a few things I'd like to try and achieve from this game, obviously winning it but beyond that I think it's a good opportunity to instil some much needed confidence into Diouf and Bojan, so they would both have to start for me.
Also I'd like to see if we can incorporate Adam into the side from the off. As we know Adam's best position isn't playing in the hole in a 4-2-3-1 but rather it's playing much deeper in a midfield three, where he can see far more of the pitch in front of him, allowing him to ping the ball about - this was the position he immediately took up when he came on yesterday.
So as Adam plays better in a three with two water carriers doing the donkey work for him and as Diouf seems to prefer playing in a front '2' and as Bojan sees himself first and foremost as a striker, would it be too revolutionary to switch to a 4-3-1-2, adopting the same set up that Rodgers finished with at Liverpool last season? Tommy Bardsley Tex Huth Muniesa
Cameron Sidwell Adam Moses Bojan Diouf
Moses would play the 'Sterling' role behind the front two strikers and be given complete license to roam, popping up on either wing at will, Bojan and Diouf would (obviously) occupy the Suarez and Sturridge positions.
Sidwell and Cameron would be in there to do the dirty work for Adam and Cameron would be kinda adopting the 'Gerrard role', at times dropping back between the two centre backs to create a back 'three' as Bardsley and Muniesa would be encouraged to get forward down the flanks as much as possible.
If it worked, then I wouldn't be adverse to trying it at home against Leicester with Ryan in for Tex and N'Zonzi in for Sidwell.
As I said though ... not a chance that Hughes will try this!
