i cant see how the removal of the cap prevents it being thrown , during our promotion season i went to the brit to watch a live televised game , cant remember who it was against , some of our fans [morons] rained bottles down on our stewards That's the absurdity of it, you can throw a bottle full of liquid without a cap almost as far as you can one with a cap. It really irritates me because it's not based on any proper risk assessment and has just become habit at almost all grounds, but as several posters have pointed out there is an easy way of overcoming it

A hip flask of JD Honey is your friend on match day.

They do it anywhere and everywhere where there is a public gathering from football matches to rock concerts. Drives me nuts. It's like being treated as a 6 years old. Does my head in in this day and age as a grow adult I can't have a beer at half time and relax as you have to neck it to get back to your seat for second half !!

They should have cricket or Rugby 7s at the Brit in the summer months - you'd be able to drink your beer within sight of the pitch whilst watching those events!

With the amount of beer we drank in the 2 hours we were in the ground in Freiburg the club could be losing a small fortune. It was fantastic to be able to stand on terracing and drink beer without worrying about being kicked out etc, and not single bit of trouble was seen all weekend.

The bottle top thing is a ball-ache. On Saturday, my son lost his drink because he dropped it on the way back to his seat. I might put a couple of bottle caps in my pocket next time we go.

That was caused by some guy going on the pitch and the stewards walked him out past the family stand where everyone was sitting & bottles were going everywhere.. In hindsight, they should have taken him past the boothen and out that way. TEST

I went the Rod Stewart gig and got served a few times and they left the top on the bottles of beer. Felt strange as you could even take it pitch side. Sounds to me like a blatant attempt to encourage people to throw missiles at the ageing Scottish rocker. Shame I missed it.

They've done this for years. It is supposed to stop the bottle being used (full of liquid with the top on) as a missile. The solution is simple - always take your own bottle cap to the match. Life Hacking at its finest.

Just wait until we back in Europe next season. You're not even allowed the bottle! They have to pour it into a plastic cup

So when i say they should have taken the guy past the boothen and threw him out it was so they did not have to pass any of the crowd. Instead they took him from one end to the other and past all the crowd, it took one person to throw a bottle & the others followed. And yes, colchester was closer for me, but it was sold out TEST

It was like an open plan concourse. Loved it.

It's actually to do with the license required by Stoke City. As all drinks are sold to be consumed on the premises, they are legally required to take the top off any bottle. Any licensed company, bar, restaurant or other premises who sells bottles of anything - alcohol or not - still sealed is in breach of their license.
It's nothing to do with being awkward, treating folk like idiots or an anti-hooligan measure, it's been a very long standing licensing requirement of any such premises where the goods are sold to be consumed solely on the premises.

It's mental. I'm guessing it's because a full bottle with a lid on can do more damage but it's still bollocks. Yet again, let's annoy 99.9% of the customer base to cover their arses against a few mindless cretins. They even took mine off at the Betis friendly. You'd do well to find a Betis fan to throw it at let alone actually want to and then hit them with it. Also the vast majority of dickheads are pissed up on beer and wouldn't want a soft drink but let's make every law abiding customer and child have to constantly hold it and drink it quickly. Yes i know it's only a minor thing but these sort of rules really piss me off. Deal with the pricks when it happens and don't punish the rest. If you're the type to want to throw something you will find something else anyway. So to anybody who's ever thrown something, that means we now have to put up with this - thanks a lot you selfish, worthless, sub-human pricks. Go and find a gutter and expire in it. That feels better.

But, although Stoke don't have them, I've seen sports venues who sell some of their soft drinks from vending machines. The vending machines deliver the bottles with the tops still on them. How do they comply with the licence?

If you take your own bottle in they sometimes remove the cap. They didnt check the european teams in the europa league as they took flares in, they would make a good missile
