Oh, the irony of Merkin slagging off a footballer for being slow!

My issue with him from what I've seen is that he doesn't do much beyond score and strikers in the Prem usually have to be about more than that. If Hull are going to play him and Jelavic, who's another pure poacher, they'll have to have a top notch supply from out wide and midfield. I must admit to thinking that Jelavic would be a flop due to lack of pace as well. I think its even more important for the lesser clubs (who have fewer laid on chances) have a forward that had at least 1 special attribute....preferably pace.

And when I played (and no, not in the Oatie games when I was past my sell-by), pace was my only attribute. I agree about Jelavic too. Him and Rhodes together don't really work for me in theory.

Rhodes is a very clever player and I think he'd surprise a few people in the Premier League. He may not have a lot of pace but his movement is second to none, as we found out in our pre season friendly at Ewood Park a few weeks ago.

He's a good player but £14 million if correct is lunacy. He's done absolutely nothing to be worth that much cash, if they can't find better for £14m they are doing something wrong.

If Diouf on a free scores more than a £14m Rhodes it will make it even more laughable

Lack of pace isn't everything, Ricky Lambert does ok. It's a much about being in the right place at the right time, and Rhodes knows where the net is.

I'll have anyone on here a £20 bet that he scores more goals than Diouf this season,if he signs for Hull.

If Leeds managed to fiddle £11m out of Fulham for McCormack, then I dread to think what Blackburn will value Rhodes at.

Debut goal anyone? Nixon Hull City boss Steve Bruce is clinching a £12 million deal for Jordan Rhodes - by sacrificing son Alex in the move.
Bruce made an increased offer for the Blackburn Rovers striker yesterday and will pay up to £11.5 million in guaranteed money and bonuses.
And the Tigers chief is even allowing his lad, Hull centre half Bruce junior, to head for Rovers in part-exchange to push the transfer through.
Rovers owners Venkys will accept the package and boss Gary Bowyer will also get much of the money to spend - plus he wanted Bruce junior all summer.
Bruce can play centre half or right back, two problem positions in the Blackburn squad - and he is cleared to tie up his part of the move.
Rhodes will be pulled out of Blackburn's game today and head for Humberside to agree personal terms. He only signed a new five-year deal at Ewood Park recently.

Decent player, shame he went to Blackburn and not a better team. Better value than Ross Mccormack though.

£11.5 plus Alex Bruce, so that's a cool £10m then.
Not his fault but way, way over priced at that for me.
I thought Dull had done a fine bit of business getting £12m for Long but they've just blotted the copybook with that one.

If you said they'd replaced Long with Rhodes for pretty much a zero net spend, you'd say they 'd done a great bit of business. It is only when you introduce the figures it seems crazy.

I'd prefer Long My own personal values would be around £4-5m for Long and I wouldn't even bother with Rhodes for a Mars Bar at Prem level - might take him for a couple of million if i was in the championship.

Long is a John Walters upgrade, whereas Rhodes is a goal scorer, pure and simple. He has the knack of getting into the right positions - that is a gift, and a valuable commodity at all levels. He will not set the league alight, but if he gets the 10-12 goals that prove enough to keep Hull up, he'd have proved his worth.

I'll eat my own cock if rhodes get double figures in the Prem I've seen a few of the Chapionship forwards from watching Hudds now and again (son gets free tickets) and I couldn't name you a forward in there that I think could cut it. Most likely one I think would be that Troy Deeney if he made the step up - the lad from Brighton scored for Leices last weekend I think so will be interesting to see how he gets on. I remember a few going on about Ings and Vokes and I just can't see them cutting it either. will be interesting to see...
