Following on from the starting XI poll on the sentimental, I want to see who you would pick to partner Ryan tomorrow.
Personally, I would go with Huth. I just feel that he is more consistent, a better defender overall and has an established partnership with Ryan. To be fair though, Wilson came in and did well, especially considering that he hadn't played at centre half for an extended period for at least a couple of years.

Wilson. I don't even think it's debatable. Is Huth even fit?

My heart says Huth but my head says Wilson. I think Huth will need breaking in after such a long lay off.

Wilson. Did a solid job for the second half of last season, it wouldn't be fair to drop him
To throw huth in to the opening game in the premier league when he's not played a full match in nearly a year, and possibly isn't fully fit anyway, would be daft.

Wilson. Doesn't deserve to be dropped. Saying that, neither does Odemwingie.
My head is screwed.

Wilson for me. Better with the ball at his feet. Don't think Huth will be up to speed just yet.

My first choice would be Ryan and Muniesa but that clearly isn't going to happen tomorrow. Wilson is always prone to a major clanger in a game and therefore the obvious selection would be Huth...but Wilson really did improve considerably towards the end of last season and probably deserves to start tomorrow, therefore Huth has to win his place back, as long as Muniesa doesn't beat him to it!! Good selection problems for Hughes at the back as well as in forward positions!

Wilson. It's his shirt to lose, that's what I like about Hughes....

Wilson has done nothing to be dropped. Nice to have the pressure of Huthy in the wings. And I really rate Huthy.....

I would like and expect, for Hughes to play the same same team that finished the season so spectacularly.
Which means Wilson starting.
It's down for new boys to play their way into the team.

Wilson worries me, he did a good job for us last season, but I feel like he's always got a mistake in him, but I think Hughes is pretty set on starting him.

Huth isn't a new boy though, he's a proven solid premier league centre back, which makes it a really tough decision IMO.

Huth is the better centre back and an integral part of the team. However , to replace players purely on this basis after such a good end to the season would send the wrong message out to the rest of the group. Hughes did a fantastic job of playing players on form last season and I expect this to continue going into the first game.

Wilson, I don't think it's that big a decision, even if both were fit.

Although Wilson started a bit dodgy at centre back and huth (is well huth) I think it's Wilson's place to lose this season and with huth breathing down his neck it may improve him also.

Villa do have some big fuckers in the team so I might be tempted to with Huth purely to knock a few out....but normally I would go with Wilson.

Wilson for me.
He's not done anything to deserve to be dropped and I think it's important to retain a solid core of last season's first choices in the interests of team work/understanding.
