All sorts of shops are disappearing with the rapidly changing high street. Greengrocers went years ago, thanks to supermarkets. Independent toy & model shops are also fast disappearing. I used to spend all my pocket money in Brooklands in Longton when I was a kid - loved that store. And Webberleys, the stationers/bookshop in Hanley - is it still around? (Not been Upanleyduck for a long time ). I was staggered when I went home a few weeks ago just how many charity shops have sprung up all over the place, the high street is dying on it's feet, Stone, my old home town, has 12 charity shops and 2 bookies, all the other little unique family shops have gone, hardly surprising though as parking is a nightmare, I parked for less than an hour and got a ticket because my back wheel was on the line, I have appealed and been told to piss off, I wrote a letter suggesting next time a shop in Stone closes down, maybe the " Traffic Enforcement Officer", or to give him his proper title " Sales Prevention Officer" should address the owners as they leave and show them how many "Shoppers" he has booked that day. To answer your question I was up Hanley and saw that Webberly's is indeed open, it staggers me just how they have survived numerous recessions, massive competition from On Line & Supermarkets.
