No politics as such, just a simple share of countries flags and the old Stoke City slogan :-) we were careful (and mindful) of what we wanted and had put on the flag. And yes, it's crazy to think it all came from TP getting us into Europe! The strange thing is, my friends are from Aberdeen and the only reason we met was because they were on the same flight to Kyiv via Riga for that match Small world How's Den keeping? I met an Aberdeen Stoke lad (a mate of Den's) in the Lucky bar either, at England V's Sweden or Italy, I forget which. Re the flag hooks at the Brit. It will be interesting to see how the stewards react when someone puts a flag up having a go, e.g "Brek Shea is Shit".

Den is very well, he's recently became a father to, so it was very nice to visit mother and baby whilst there! (both are excellent for the record)
Yeah that might have been Andrew? He's the one who's just got married, I was there for England vs Sweden, but I think Andrew was also there for the Italy match.
Ha ha. I think it's an excellent idea, this flag we've got is pretty big, but I was intending on putting it up at the home games, and any away games I manage to make this season.
As for Yarmolenko, I had the same idea myself, but the Ultras were having none of it!! ;(

Any updates from today gents? The club are going to put something on the website but basically if the club are going to assist with the hanging of flags and encourage it (they are very keen) they will have to set some guidelines and indeed seek advise on things like safety such as fire proof over a certain size and of course they would have to check them for any slogans etc that could cause offence. We spoke of ways of providing the best way to hang them and he has now gone to speak to others and try and find z solution that will suit most. There should be something from the club early next week. I have to say there is a hell of a lot for the club to sort behind the scenes and really isn't straight forward.

Can't you attach those rubber sucker things to each corner and sucker them to the back of the stand (we use them to attach a wreath to the front door at Christmas)

Perhaps provide hooks for a standard size flag below whatever size that needs them to be fire proofed?
So the club sounded on board and intended to make a song and dance?
Shame we couldn't get it done before the first game.
Great post, keep us all updated. Good to see the club finally concerned with stuff like this

I received the following email this morning. I think it shows that the club are serious about making the Brit a better match day. There were a few great flags in Freiburg and we have seen loads over the time at the Brit. Dust them off and get them up there. I think it will just be a case of duct tape to hang them for the time being but if they see we are keen to get them up it may hurry them along to find a perm way of hanging them. Anyway this is the message:- Hello,
Hope you are well and looking forward to matchday?
As I mentioned on Friday, I met with senior staff members at the club yesterday to talk about the best way to assess supporter’s wishes to bring flags into the stadium.
There is still some work to do alongside the local safety advisory group (Police, Council, Fire Brigade) to determine a policy relating to fireproofing of large flags etc..
In the interim, I have arranged for a new section to go on our website from tomorrow under the ‘FANS’ section. Whilst the policy is being agreed, we will use the following line on the site:
‘Any supporter, home or away, wishing to bring their own large flag (greater than 3m x 2m) to the Britannia Stadium on a matchday, should contact supporters@stokecityfc.com at least 48 hours prior to kick off.’
I don’t think there is the need for a large scale press release just yet, but please feel free to pass on this information to fellow supporters who have expressed an interest in this area. Will update if any more info received.

I'm not surprised health and safety is once again making a simple thing a complicated process. I was actually thinking about dangerous hooks sticking out of walls though not if the flags are fireproof

Mines 12ft x 6ft. Not entirely sure if there's anywhere to hang it at the back of my block but I'll give it ago. Hopefully this news will encourage people to bring their flags down on Saturday.

I was actually thinking about dangerous hooks sticking out of walls though not if the flags are fireproof Got to admit I didn't give the fireproof line a thought either. The hooks are looking like a no go due to fixing them into the plastic as much as them sticking out. A curtain rail type thing going from block 19 right round to the family stand was mentioned and the idea that I thought would be best as it would allow for all sizes of flag and you could just tie to it. I would assume whatever goes up would also go along the south stand as well. I think we will be limited to the backs of the stands as there is advertising every where else there is a gap.

Cracking idea - I hope a few folks get involved for Villa then many others follow suit.
I can also understand the concerns about safety - if someone was hurt we would be hammered in the press. However, I do wonder whether flags are really such a great fire hazard. From recollection they're usually made from a polyester type material. I don't see anyone forcing scousers to have their shell suits fireproofed before games.

Doesn't really say much more to be honest.Get ya flags down there on Sat and then we can hope there will be some sort of perm fixture to hang them from in the near future. For the time being duct tape will be your friend.

Take ya flags and duct tape tomorrow. Lets put some colour around the back of the stands. The more flags on show the more chance the club will provide a proper solution to hanging them up.
