Guess £6M wasn't such a bad deal at the time because everybody knew he was a good player, but had had a bad time after his brother died. I guess we all thought that after a time he would be back at his best, and he was really great when he came to Spurs. Unfortunately he never turned out to be the same player again, but even last season we could see for short spells what he was capable of. Pity it didn't pay off!

and will bugger off at the first opportunity - yes making a profit which will be wiped out on his replacment
its all relative
the transfer business is a lucky dip, you need a mixture of youth and experience
hughes has bought a mixture of youth/experience and from the dogshome you just have to hope some work out for you
and in this case crouch did, in more ways than one

Borini is shit though :-) in terms of goals he got one less than Crouch despite playing less games and for a far worse club than ours. he's not that bad at all to be fair, just playing for a shit club with shit players around him. Messi would have looked shit playing in the team Sunderland had last season personally the transfer i find most staggering this summer is £20mill for Lovren!

wouldn't say that mate. Borini got 7 goals last year in the Prem (Crouch has got 7 and 8 last 2 seasons) so about the same as Crouch and also has the benefit of not being 30 when he was signed by Sunderland (which is looking likely again now). in the long term (if Borini continues to get about the same goal tally or higher than Crouch) 14m for Borini is a far better deal than "18m" for Crouch (or even the 10mill we actually paid) as they'll be getting a lot more years out of the player than we'll have got out of Crouch...and if he moves on, Borini will actually have a resale value, something we were never ever going to have with Crouch. i love Crouch but it was a daft thing to say really. RE: WP, personally i'd just buy him out of his contract now and fuck him off. we need to free up some space and get some wages off the books for FFP and no-one seems to want any of our players. we can't just sit around waiting for all their contracts to expire or, if we do, then this could be our last productive transfer window for a while! What we got with Crouch was a player who could hold the ball up, if not directly he was involved in virtually every goal we scored If that's the case I'm surprised he didn't cost more, having a striker that can help score goals even when he's injured etc is a managers dream

Ahh. You beat me to it. My mate said to me the other day that I didn't understand what irony meant, which was ironic because we were stood at the bus stop at the time.

If you average the fee out over the contract I don't think we would get much better value, and not just on the pitch, for 4.5 (With Pally) or 2.5 million a year for a striker. Oh and Borini takes penalties!

Where was the tipping point from 'give the guy a break, he's had terrible issues to deal with' to 'idle fat bastard is ripping us off'? For me it was this time last year. I could sort of understand him not being first choice in a Pulis team but when Hughes blanked him as well it was time to admit we had be done by 'Arry.

The fact is, he is unsellable. Now, we can go about this three ways. We could either pay up his contract now and get him off our hands (which would be the most convienient way, but also quite expensive, or we could loan him out, either with a buy-out clause or just so we can offload some of his wages or, finally (and this one is not going to be popular), we could get him back to fitness and give him one last chance to play for his Stoke future. Either way though, we have been fucking shafted by Uncle Arry and his associates.

I drove a bloke in Scotland that has 60 summit % shares in Tottenham Hotspurs he was some Prince in Bahrain and also owns the Bahrain Grand Prix and a shit load of oil so hes pretty well off. I said to him they sent us a pile of shit and he just laughed at me.
