Now you're speaking my language. One can but try!! .............but sssshhhhhh!!! This humour stuff is upsetting those who want to talk seriously about the rumoured signing of Yarmolenko and on that note we can but keep our collective fingers crossed it would seem for the time being. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it is only something intended to smoke out Assaidi, anyway. My collective fingers are all crossed. And I've got plenty, I'm from Leek.

I am indeed well endowed in the metacarpal and phalanges department and have been since birth due to the genetic mutations which occur as a result of inbreeding in small rural communities which populate the Staffordshire Moorlands. As a result of this digitary excess I have no need to accumulate further similar appendages, I find 18 perfectly adequate for my everyday requirements. Hope this helps

Yarmolenko on the right and Moses on the left would be the Hughes dream pairing of wide winger/strikers I should think.

And let Arnie go for £5 million because he sure as hell won't want to play second fiddle. However, Moses isn't our player so if we were to make on offer for Yarmy, some cash from a transfer might be necessary. What's Moses worth do we think?

I'd prefer Moses signed permanently in January and Yarmolenko on a free come the summer (isn't his contract up then?). Of course, there could be quite a queue for a player like that on a free, but we thought that with Diouf and secured him very quickly this past summer. I'd say Moses is worth £10m in today's market.

Agreed mate, there's no chance we'd buy both in January and, as I said, if both eventually came in you'd expect Arnie to be a touch concerned but with Assaidi only on loan, Moses, Yarmy and Arnie are three great wide options to have.

Missed the boat with him being out of contract unless we pay big bucks in January. They'll be queueing up to sign him on a Bosman, a Top 4 club might not have paid £12m for him to sit on the bench but he'd be a cracking addition for no transfer fee.

I think if we really do want to be a top 10 shoe in every season, we need to sign players like Yarmelenko - we need to get out of bad habits, for example Leicester sign Esteban Cambiasso as a holding, tough tackling midfielder who can spray passes around, controlled the game at the Brit when he came on and dictated the play vs United last weekend, and who has won titles with Real Madrid and Inter. On the other hand, we sign Steve Sidwell, a man who got promoted with Reading, then wasn't good enough at Chelsea, brought back down to earth with a move to Villa, did rubbish there, and then got relegated with Fulham.
The point is, we must sign the likes of Yarmelenko, who has won titles in Ukraine (not as easy as it sounds) and played in top European competition year after year. Not buy a ginger from a team who are woefully terrible, under a manager at the time who said 'cheese' would cure a knee injury. And what has Sidwell done for us? Oh, dropped two points with that silly tackle last weekend. Case closed.

Come January Yarmolenko can sign a pre-contract with anyone (as he will have less than six months left on his contract). I'd say that at the very minimum we need to try to get him on a pre contract in January - in the summer I think he will get far too many offers. If he DID sign a pre-contract we could then approach Kiev to see if they would let him go in January for a modest fee as they would be certain to get nothing in the summer has he had signed a pre-con. Its a long shot - but we have nothing to lose by trying. Obviously our chances of success increase the higher up the table we can get by January.

Good meeting last night at CW. Lots of positives, telephone conference call to Kyiv involving a high ranking member of the Stoke BOD. Everything agreed with player. Just a final few hurdles to sort out with his club. Then it's a waiting game. Balls out of the bath, I would expect him to be in the Stoke squad for the Man City game.To be fair he didn't say which Man city game. We still have 11th Feb to look forward to.

he'll be on a free in the summer and there'll be plenty of bigger clubs than us queueing up for him then. it was Kiev that pissed about and ruined his transfer to us in the summer reportedly so i'm guessing they want to hold onto him for the remainder of the season if they were willing to turn down a bid from us when they know they'll get sod all next summer.

They did seem to take their time mate! Makes no sense, if they'd have sold him they'd have got around £12-15m for him at least... reminds me of Dortmund with Lewandowski... could've sold him a year earlier and got around £40m. Can't believe clubs who have to sell never cash in just for the sake of one season when you can buy 3/4 just as good players with the money acquired.

Spuddie, slow down on the starting new threads mate. I know it's exciting joining a new forum and all that, but at a rate of 3 threads a day you're not going to get many responses.
...and before you ask, 'Yes, I am a member of the Oatcake Thread and Post Police Force'.

Can't believe clubs who have to sell never cash in just for the sake of one season when you can buy 3/4 just as good players with the money acquired. but if he's an important and influential member of the team then i suppose winning the league and getting into the CL is probably worth more to them than the 12-15m so financially it would make sense to keep him and forego the transfer fee next summer. it's not as if it's cut and dried that Kiev would win their league, they're currently 3rd so they probably just need any truly class players they currently have. they're not going to bring in 3 or 4 replacements with just 12 millor get anyone as good as him for 12mill either; the reason he was quoted as around 12mill was simply because he had 1 year left on his contract, any player of his quality with a few years left would probably be more around the 20mill mark
