The only factor I see which could count is the Barcelona factor again. Manager ex player, 2 young Spanish talents to link up with. Maybe a stab at the Premiership, I doubt a top 4 or 5 club would be interested. This guy is the only player I have seen in the flesh who was better than George Best. Only 2 opposition players got a standing ovation from the Madrid fans, ever, Ronnie and Maradona. He also won the South American player of the Year in 2013. Then I wake up. It won't happen.

It would be a huge coup for the club, but I reckon we would only sign him for the media attention and the corresponding increased coverage over the world plus the merchandise we could sell with his name on, rather than what he could offer us as a player.

I remember watching Gullit play against us in the cup. Completely ran the game and was streets ahead of anyone else on the pitch. I think he was 34.
Ronaldinho is in the same league.

I was there that night too.. I don't think John spencer was on the save wavelength as Hullit to be fair. Can't remember our central midfielders that night (foley, beeston???) but nobody could get near him. Absolutely no reason to sign Ronaldinho though. Remember Owen. When it has gone, it's gone. Fowler. Kennedy. Heskey.

Has anybody considered that having the 'BET365' logo emblazoned across a global superstars chest, in many media outlets across a worldwide audience would be beneficial to both the BET365 and the Stoke City 'brand'. You cannot put a price to the amount of exposure both the club and it's owners could recoup from this potential signing . Personally I don't think all this rumour is accurate however it would an interesting period in the clubs history . Bet 365 is already one of the World's leading online betting sites anyway with over 7 million customers and has a presence in over 200 countries. not as if they need that much extra advertising as it is

South American Player of the Year 2013?

Post by pedro23 on Aug 1, 2014 13:50:16 GMT
Or so Wikipedia says '
Even though Ronaldinho had been injured for a bigger part of the second half of the season he was still voted the 2013 South American Footballer of the Year"

South American Player of the Year 2013? isn't even on a par in terms of quality as European player of the year or any other player of the year awards. the south american leagues are largely shocking (with a handful of good clubs sprinkled around the entire continent) and the only reason he won it is because Neymar fell out of the qualification ranks when he moved to Barca (as it's based over the calendar year rather than the season so no-one could continue voting for him when he moved)

I think we need to take this into serious consideration and analyse all of the possibilities. For example: Can he make himself presentable on match of the day?

I have to say I have not taken the time to trawl through all the footballing Journalists who may have watched him playing in the last couple of years obviously you have to know this. But you would have thought that someone, somewhere must have thought he was half decent to name him player of the year, not withstanding Neymars departure. Not sure I would agree with the Owen comparison either, because let's face it the then Manager didn't have a clue what to do with him, when he did on occasion decide to play him. And I think we were more of a laughing stock the way we were playing rather than not playing Owen. It's spurious anyway because as really everybody knows there is no way he would ever come to Stoke, always going to be the MLS. I would take the risk of a publicity stunt with a one legged, past it version of the great World player he was, than roll out Wilson P and Shotts as Premier League Players. But hey that's my opinion
