I was once told "milk before tea tastes like pee, tea before milk feels like silk." Have any of you got tips for the perfect cuppa?

Tea needs boiling water on the leaves, so never add milk until it has brewed. This applies with red bags or loose. If you want to put milk in your cup first, that's fine as long as you've brewed your tea in a teapot.
Coffee shops make suit tea because their hot water is at the right temperature for coffee, but not hot enough for a good cup of tea.
Tetleys Estate tea is awesome, I never make a bad cup with it.

I find that tea is best made strong, with the last part before adding milk being bringing the tea bag outside of the water and squeezing it with the teaspoon just by the part of the rim that the tea shall be drank from.
Then of course adding the milk bit by bit so not to overdo it. Milky tea doesn't even look right.
This seems to do the trick for those I make tea for anyway, I don't even like tea.

I was at Uni with one of the Twinings family.
Milk always in first.Brewed from loose tea in a teapot.Allowed to brew for 2/3 minutes then poured.Sugar afterwards.
Only commoners put it in last.

Tea leaves in a pot are by far the best I agree ....but putting the milk in first or last can't possibly affect the quality of your cup of tea .....although I concede it is common to put it in last !

Bish-you could argue that the sky is actually black not blue. When a Twining says you put the milk in first that is what you do! Many a time I had to sit through him having his breakfast tea or Earl Grey and longed for a cup of PG. I believe he is now something big at BP-it just shows what an old school tie will get you.Stowe I believe?

I know of several decent places in the Scarborough area and around York ,obviously there will be good chippies around , it's just finding them, I can't comment on the standard around Stoke these days but it used to be good

Yorkshire tea,let the teabag stand in cup of boiling water for 1 min.stir 32 times then add milk. Tea always tastes better with Fish n Chips for some reason, like someone said earlier.

Make tea how you want, but you are wrong on the "Only commoners put milk in last" comment. One of the many slurs thrown at Katy from Williams well healed friends was, "She's a bit MIF" Milk In First. Back in the day if you had poor standard china, putting MIF dropped the temperature of the tea & stopped your china Cracking. If you were wealthy enough to afford good china, this wasn't a problem.

Pouring the hot tea into cool milk won't scald the milk. Pouring milk into hot tea can scald and impair the taste of the milk. That was what I was told in school. The only thing I learned in school too. So, if you put the milk in last and both me and Bish are observing matters, basically you are common and uneducated.
