I'm surprised we've not loaned him out yet, as I cant see him making the bench over Sorro. He needs regular football to break into our team, bet he's getting frustrated here as well

I honestly thought you would sell Begovic and he would be your number 1? From what I've seen he's a brilliant shot and has the potential to be far better than Joe Hart.

So did he when he joined I'm sure he will be the No. 1 when Begovic goes - but Bego is staying here a lot longer than most people thought he would, and Butland is in a bit of a no man's land, pushed from pillar to post on loan. Looks like it'll be another season in the Championship if he can get one - but it's even hard to find a home at a good club there for a season, with teams prioritising keepers they've got long-term. Brighton have been mentioned and that'd be a good place for him to go, but it's not ideal and I bet he's secretly frustrated about how it's turned out. He must have thought this summer,at the latest, was when he's be stepping in.

That must be the thinking At 21, he needs games, games and more games so he continues to improve. I agree on Soro though. I'd be very worried if Bego got injured and Butland was unable to be recalled until January.

Judging from his and his wife comments they genuinely seem to love Stoke. Great from a playing point of view but perhaps not so good from our financial perspective given he's most probably our only player worth double figures.

Personally I'd have him on the bench over sorro. I think he's a better keeper than Sorro. However, I think he needs to be playing games so I'd be inclined to loan him out for another season - providing that Bego stays, of course.

Professionally, he must be desperate to go, as settled as he is. Champions League on twice as much money as he's on now is his proper level. But must be still waiting for the stars to align and see a genuinely big club step forward and want to spend £12-£15m on him. I'm amazed that hasn't happened yet, but if it did, I can't see us standing in his way 2 years left on his deal - so it'll be interesting to see what happens next summer if we manage to hold on for one more year. The reports that Liverpool didn't rate Mignolet are a concern.

Digressing slightly mate Southampton have just sold or on verge of selling five of their 1st team for over £20m and another whose played only 18 games for £16m!!!! If that's the bar we have many who are worth well into double figures

If that's the bar we have many who are worth well into double figures True enough Wezza but you know what our reputations like. As soon as the word Stoke is mentioned the price drops significantly I'd say our next most expensive assets behind Bego are Arnie and Shawcross at about £8 million. Relatively speaking given the cost of Southampton players etc you'd think they'd be worth more but in reality I doubt it. I think quite a few clubs are going to look pretty stupid next season given the stupid money they've spunked on average shite. I genuinely feel like of all the clubs in the league we have got the best value for money thus far. Diouf and Bojan for fuck all is outstanding work by our transfer team.

Should loan him out to Pulis, Pulis teams never conceed many goals & he seems to have a knack of making goalkeepers better.

Begovic is among the top 5 goalkeepers in the world, and will gain a team as many points a season as a 20 goal striker. Start the bidding at £20mill upfront.

Don't think Bego is going anywhere and can't understand all the small time talk about selling him
Sorensen still number two for me
Butland still needs more game time so needs loaning out

If Liverpool arent sold on Mignolet then maybe there, but he was equal to Bego before the move and I dont think theyd turn their back on him yet. The only option is abroad, and Barcelona/Madrid aside noone is going to pay silly money.

I agree, There are hardly any clubs with enough stature who'll come in with the cash and put him in as No.1. Still probably a chance Real Madrid will come calling, although having splashed all that cash on Rodriguez, can't see it being this season. And Liverpool have got to be the other threat, either this summer or next. I was worried about Arsenal, but they seem fully stocked now. And Barcelona have also bought 2 keepers. I don't know if Juventus would be interested, but Buffon must be coming to the end?

So we agree that butland Is the better back up but many think he's too good for the bench or will hurt his development.
That doesn't help us though if anything happens to bego during the season. As much as we all love Tommy he scared the shit out of us at times last season. One of them tough to call conundrums.

I would love Butland to be our keeper one day but it depends how long he wants to be 2nd/3rd choice for.

I would love Butland to be our keeper one day but it depends how long he wants to be 2nd/3rd choice for. He may be a good prospect but I'd prefer to keep Begovic any day of the week, if he has to go because of this he has to go, imo. Sell him to a club willing to accept a buy back clause in our favour. I can't see why he can't be number 2 keeper now to be used to learn from & compete with Bego & used in cup games. Sorro is great but sometimes you have to look to the future, it'd be Soronsen to go if anyone if it was left to me.

Maybe that's why we are getting some decent deals pushed our way. Just a thought.

Butland won't go anywhere until we are sure noone is going to make a bid for Begovic This. The loan window stays open for a while after the transfer window closes so nothing will happen with Butland till after that. Seems fairly straightforward.
