West Brom started pushing the self-destruct button with the sacking of (the excellent) Steve Clarke and have been pushing harder and harder ever since. A master class of how not to run a football club by Jeremy Peace the chairman. Long May it continue!

Brown's not an Irvine signing. I don't think many signings at WBA will be.
The Chairman Peace is heavily involved with signings as he sees WBA as a company and the players as assets which either need to add to the team on a Saturday and/or represent a decent profit after selling on. It's his money so he calls the shots.
For years Peace has followed the more continental idea that the 'Manager' is actually the 'Head Coach' and only coaches players the the club have invested in.
I think Irvine publicly stating that he's only seen Brown on a DVD is his way of saying "Listen everyone, if this lad turns out to be a lemon then don't blame me." Irvine is only on a 12 month rolling contract.

Irvine also appears intent on breaking Joe Jordan's record for the number of full-backs in one starting eleven, which has stood since 1994.

West Brom started pushing the self-destruct button with the sacking of (the excellent) Steve Clarke and have been pushing harder and harder ever since. A master class of how not to run a football club by Jeremy Peace the chairman. Long May it continue! Quite an amusing story, 10m on a player the manager has not seen play. However he does average 1 in 2.2 games, is supposedly one of the quickest players around, 2 footed and very good in the air, add to that he's only 25. Think if we'd signed him for 5m no one would care if Hughes hadn't seen him play. After all us, Newcastle, villa and hull were apparently looking very closely at him in December for 9m, but dynamo Kiev wouldn't sell in the jan transfer window. He's been on albions radar for a few months and irvines been there a few weeks so he has to trust the club scouts. Di mateo admitted he'd never seen odemwingie play but was told by WBA scouts he was being bought as they had been watching him for some time. And one last thing, 'Peace giving a master class on how not to run a football club' is also taking WBA into their 8th prem season having a fraction of the money Coates has who is taking us into our 6th. Let's not play the big I am, yes we beat them just about everytime we play them but we seem to belittling just about every club in our mini league within the prem, hope we ain't getting ahead of ourselves.
