I'll be surprised if 4 of our 5 new signings make the starting eleven. Regardless of having pre-season together, that isn't something that happens very often (or not at least with a positive outcome). The signing of Diouf will not automatically see the end of Crouch in the starting eleven. He played well last season and I expect him to be involved again. Hughes played it right last season with plenty of people getting games, formations changing and players used in different positions. With the possible exception of Teixeira (although he could feature more than expected), I expect us to see all attacking players getting plenty of minutes.

Iv never been a fan of leaving your best players on the bench No, neither am I but we have got him at a low point (dip in form) in his career, similar to Muniesa, chucking him in at the deep end may well be counter productive. It worked well with Muniesa if it works with this lad we have a gem on our hands. The Muniesa comparison is very apt. Although Bojan is vastly more experienced than Muniesa, his stock is at an all time low for the period since he turned pro and, like Muniesa, he is now in a league which is hugely more physically demanding than anything he has played in before - AND his confidence is at a low ebb. Muniesa was eased in very gently and looks a much much better player, in terms of cutting the mustard in the Premier League, than he did a year ago. I suppose it is possible that Bojan's pre season will be so impressive that he forces his way into the starting eleven by the Villa game but it is much more likely that he will go down the Muniesa route of gradual introductions and increasing game time as the season progresses.

Odemwingie isn't a natural for the position on the right of a forward three, but he's definitely somebody who can "do a job" there with a bit of quality.
I suspect Hughes has the same view and wants somebody more naturally suited to the role (and younger).

Was our season turner last season, and after seeing him in the WC I think he will be just as important this season too!

Certain he's got another 1/2 years in him before his performance starts to drop. I think he'll be vital this season

I'm expecting something like this -------------------Begovic Bardsley - shawcross - huth - pieters --------------------whelan----------------- ------------Sidwell---------nzonzi-------- Bojan---------------------------------arnie ---------------------diouf------------------- Subs from Butland/sorro Cameron teixeira Wilson muniesa Ireland Adam Odemwingie , Walters crouch The other 6 can go Shotton , wilko , ness , palacios , Shea , jerome I can't see us only having one holding mid, leave us to open imo. If we don't lose any players I think starting 11 against Villa will be Bego Bardsley Shawcross Huth Pieters Whelan Nzonzi Odemwingie Ireland Arnie Diouf Bojan and Crouch could start though in place of Ireland and Diouf

Certainley wouldnt drop odemwingie. Always performed for us last season, dont drop him for someone unproven.
Also dont get the sidwell and bardsley love in myself? Good squad fillers to me, nothing more. They just improve on our options of palacios/wilko.

Out of the new players I only see Bardsley and Diouf starting the first game.
Sidwell, Bojan, Teixera will be on the bench

Unfortunately, I think You're right scfcforever69. For me, Odemwingie is the best forward we have. Haven't seen Diouf and Bojan that much yet. But Peter is better than both Crouch, Walters and Arnautovic. Odemwingie is certainly not better than Arnautovic and is a completely different player to Crouch.

Football is a funny game though! Before signing Odemwingie I felt this was a big mistake, but now I think he is probably our most important attacker! He has really impressed me I must say, and yes I was wrong!!
