Im slightly concerned Odem will not figure in the side as perhaps he ought to. He has goals in him and I feel he is the forgotten man

Think he'll be rotated and used off bench when not starting as he's a game changer.

I think ppl get complacent and forget what happened last season, he might be a bit old, but he is brilliant for Stoke

Not sure how you think he's been forgotten, if we don't get a right winger in hell be a nailed on starter.

Didn't realise you know exactly how Hughes thinks.
Only Hughes himself knows how much Odemwingie will be used, and I strongly doubt he's "forgotten" at all. What a daft assumption to make.

He played really well in WC as a right sided player.

Was kinda surprised about the post....Odemwengie had a massive impact last season and had a decent world cup, he has plenty of legs left in him at least another season or two.

I think he'll play a crucial role again this season.

As it stands I'd still have him in our starting eleven with him on the right, Bojan through the middle and Arnie on the left in a 4-2-3-1. I'm confident we'll get Assaidi eventually though and he will provide good competition for Odemwingie's place. I do think Odemwingie is defensively better than Assaidi though and Assaidi tends to thrive in the last third of the game when it becomes more stretched so Hughes may view him as the ideal impact sub. Time will tell, it would certainly be a nice dilemma to have if Assaidi does sign.

Hughes will set up for the first game exactly the same as he did the last game of the 2014 season.
That means, those players will have to play to prove themselves to keep a place in the team

don't think he featured in in many oatcake ppls team selection He has to, we have no one else other than Walters that can realistically play the right forward role, he's the best we currently have unless people are putting Bojan there which I personally don't think will happen in reality.

Unfortunately, I think You're right scfcforever69. For me, Odemwingie is the best forward we have. Haven't seen Diouf and Bojan that much yet. But Peter is better than both Crouch, Walters and Arnautovic.

I'm expecting something like this
-------------------Begovic Bardsley - shawcross - huth - pieters --------------------whelan----------------- ------------Sidwell---------nzonzi-------- Bojan---------------------------------arnie ---------------------diouf-------------------
Subs from Butland/sorro Cameron teixeira Wilson muniesa Ireland Adam Odemwingie , Walters crouch
The other 6 can go Shotton , wilko , ness , palacios , Shea , jerome

If it is there's the reason we shouldn't play him there, but I haven't got a clue where he played at Ajax tbh.

what a daft thread? wingy will be out on the right. managers of mark hughes calibre do not forget the contributions of a player from the last season. mh seems to me to be very fair and gives everyone a fair chance, I doubt many oatcakers would have chosen wilso to play at cb last season once huth was out but mh put his faith in him and was rewarded, same goes for arnie there were loads of threads on here saying he shouldn't be in the team, mh proved them wrong. thankfully we have mh picking the team not the posters on here!! p.s. I am awaiting your next thread "is asmir the forgotten man"

Wingie will certainly be in the mix. Also, Cameron won't sit.

It seems to me MH chooses players on merit, a novel approach I know, the way Odemwingie finished the season if he's fit he'll play.
Can't for the life of me see anything to be concerned about there.

Yes, as the squad stands at present, Wingie is far and away the best option on the right. I'm sure Hughes will agree! If we signed a left footed "inverted winger" then Wingie would have competition for his place but until then he is number 1 choice. Even if/when we do sign competition for that wide right spot he will still be invaluable as competition for a central striking spot. I wish he was 5 years younger!

I think MH will ease him in gradually (fnarr fnarr) from the bench and see how it goes, really can't see him starting. Under Pulis he'd be training with Barnsley or Walsall now, he's only 23.

Iv never been a fan of leaving your best players on the bench How do we know he is one of our better players? The fact the only teams in for him were a newly-promoted La Liga Club, a Greek club, Stoke and Standard Liege shows how he's viewed by clubs in big leagues at this point. Even Ajax didn't want him back. They all have multi-million scouting operations and are aware of his youth record and the fact "he was ace on Football Manager 2011" At the price, he's an exciting enough gamble - but he's got a hell of a lot to prove as you can judge by scanning opinions of him at Barca, Milan, Roma and Ajax.

Iv never been a fan of leaving your best players on the bench No, neither am I but we have got him at a low point (dip in form) in his career, similar to Muniesa, chucking him in at the deep end may well be counter productive. It worked well with Muniesa if it works with this lad we have a gem on our hands.
