Really excited to see the trailer, can't wait for next Thursday - and still buzzing after the premiere last Wednesday. Wonderful film, and one of the best things about the night for me was the mix of people and how relaxed and friendly everyone was. Talking to the director afterwards - Crystal Palace fan, never mind - he mentioned again how the whole crew had warmed to Stoke-on-Trent, and said he'd been really impressed by the enthusiastic response to the call for fans to be in the Boothen early before the game (v Spurs? Fulham?) when they filmed the 'There's only one Neil Baldwin' chant. Like he said, you wouldn't get that at Chelsea or Arsenal.

Here is an article about Tony Curran who plays lou, with a great picture from the film of him and Toby de Cann. Toby plays one of the Stoke players and led the singing before the Fulham game. He is a season ticket holder in the south stand and an excellent actor himself ( One Toby De cann, there's only one Toby De cann..................) www.scotlandnow.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/scots-actor-tony-curran-splitting-4263054

His backward/sideways glances as he was assessing Neil and whether to hire him and how to handle things when the players were giving Neil some serious flack was great acting in my humble opinion.

I've just brought the 'proper' hard copy Radio Times which really goes to town with an editorial, a major feature on Neil called "There's only one Neil Baldwin" which has a pic of the Fulham game, yet another feature as "pick of the day" and it is also gets "drama of the week". The Tv times also runs a feature article on Neil, and gives the film five stars.

Stuff from the BBC website about making the film including interviews with Julian Farino, the Director, and Gemma Jones, who plays Mary, Neil's mum. I knew Mary very well, and I think Pete Bowker's brilliant script and Gemma's top notch acting have captured her superbly. Unlike the other characters in the film, they couldn't talk to her but only had others' accounts to rely on but the result is amazing. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/22brry43VD026rXh5n2ClKG/a-marvellous-experience

This might be of interest if not already posted here or elsewhere, from the 'Stoke Premiere', featuring Lou, Lee Sandford and our very own Malcolm Clarke, of course the man himself is there too!
Knowing Neil as we do, don't be surprised if Marvellous ends up scooping loads of awards - imagine that Neil at the TV Awards...

But I can't wait to see it!

Thanks for posting that. Great interview with Lou. I was wondering when Tony Kelly's unforgivable sin would get mentioned ! Incidentally, the interview which is labelled as being with Pete Bowker is in fact with Julian Farino, the Director.

Love that story about Lou telling Nello to tell George Andrews to clear off! But that was the kind of thing that went on. We did a spoof story in The Oatcake about Nello issuing a "Play me or sell me" ultimatum to Lou. A few days later, we bumped into Nello outside the ground. He told us that, although he got the joke and found it funny, Lou wasn't too impressed. A few days later we got a letter in the post from Nello's solicitor, "Sue, Grabbit & Run", demanding that we issue a full apology to Nello along with compensation to the tune of ten grand. We duly sent a letter of apology along with 10,000 Italian lira (which cost us about a fiver if my memory serves me correctly). Lou stuck the letter and the lira bill up on the notice board apparently. Great days.

Issue 80, our first game back in Division One. I will try to find it ( in the loft somewhere !) or would you be able to scan a copy and send it to me ? It's ( yet another) Neil story, and a good one.

Great work Davef I've just seen the clips for the film on BBC 2. It looks like a fabulous tribute to a special human being who has led a brilliant life, whilst also giving our fantastic club (a club Nello loves and is so synonymous with) a decent boost in the public eye. Can't wait to watch it.

Well the Daily Mail's accompanying tv magazine could not have praised the programme anymore, giving it the pick of the week title and a 5-star rating (which very rarely happens even for a pick of the week title).
They also state that Toby Jones will be in the running for multiple awards for a fantastic performance, which would be excellent to see.
It also states it is a 'part-biopic, part-musical', which I thought seemed quite odd. For anyone that has seen it (Malcolm in particular) is there much music in it? I do find that some shows/movies can be degraded by unnecessary musical interludes (not that I would know anything about making good tv mind). Does it contribute positively to the overall show?
As stated above, very much looking forward to this.

I can remember him playing in the pre season friendly in Weston super Mare. It was absolutly brilliant, they were playing against my local team of Weston St Johns. I recorded some of the game and will try and find out if i've still got it. Can't wait until Thursday 9pm.
