Shawcross. Our first million pound player. He has become a legend from those teen years. Prior to that I always liked Thorney.

Hoekstra, followed by Tuncay, followed by Bojan
Was also excited by Palacios, but slightly perturbed by the amounts of money we were spending at the time (on Crouch).
Had a good feeling about Pennant too

Roy Vernon and Harry Burrows on the same day.
Harry was a brilliant signing - £27,000 on transfer deadline day in March 1965. A left winger, 245 appearances in Division 1, 68 goals - 68! He's still my second-favourite Stoke player, after John Ritchie.

Most excited about signings for me were both second time around signings.
"We got Macari back O we got Macari back. O we got Macari back, O we got Macari back"
And Hudson.

Missed out on Sir Stan, not by too many years! Anyway big John coming home, Oh Jimmy Jimmy, Hudson, Banks, saw Terry Conroy's debut at Liverpool, not the glamour signing of the others but after that debut a star was born!

Bangoura, a feeling that was only compounded by his superb start.

The only time I ever thought about getting a players name on the back of my shirt was when we signed Michael Owen, even though deep down, I (and probably most people) knew he was finished.
First post by the way. Hi all.

Mike Sheron was a big signing at the time, was hot property at Man C, went Norwich & lost his way a bit through injuries & loss of form, then we all know what happened once we swapped him for the legend Keith Scott.
Hopefully Bojan will do the same.

Crouch. I had been thinkinking for years he would be ideal with Pulis set pieces. Diouf this go around.

Beattie, Etherington, Huth, Tuncay, Jones, Woodgate, Upson, Pennant, Cameron, Edu, Shea, Arnautovic. I pretty much mess myself every time we sign a player that I've heard of.

Very few will ever equal re-signing Stan, everything changed after that. Just checked; he was 46 and cost £3k we paid him £50 per week, double his Blackpool wages. First match crowd went from 8.4k average to over 39k. Nobody has ever come close to that effect Have to agree with you, my first game too, still gives me goose pimples thinking about the noise from the crowd Second best for me was the great Alan Hudson

The two who got me excited were Huddy who was a true class act and would have fit in and graced any first division team at that time. Also Shilts as when Banksy retired, Shilts was probably the next best thing.

Crouch, Owen, Odemwingie.
Bojan not so much based on his lack of Prem experience and form over recent years.

Pericard , Juventus starlet. Should have been our Drogba but Pulis trained all of the skill out of him!

I was quite excited by us signing Ed de Goey I thought it was a pretty big signing for a Championship team. Tuncay did also seem like a great signing at the time.

I was pretty chuffed about Tuncay although not that bothered about Eidur.
I remember when we signed Chris Greenacre and thought, wow that kids got a great goal scoring record. How disappointing.
Also, I remember when we signed Frode Kippe on loan from Liverpool. At that time, if they played for a team in the Premiership, they must be good... yeah ok.
In recent times, I was seriously chuffed when Michael Owen signed, and ever so disappointed when Pulis failed to utilize him properly

Stan was a master stroke - boosted the whole city of SOT including people who knew nothing about football. More people started watching Stoke than at any other time.
Banks - another Waddington master stroke; secured Stoke's 1st Division place.
Jimmy Greenhoff - I couldn't understand why other clubs didn't snap him up - probably the best Stoke player never to play for England
return of John Ritchie - not the greatest but a great player to watch (especially against Arsenal)
Alan Hudson - sheer class
Tuncay - knew he would excite (I live near Middlesbrough) but also knew he was not a team man and a disturbing influence and wouldn't last.
Shilton was an exciting signing as well, even though he displaced a school colleague John Farmer, but a disappointment.
Peter Crouch in recent times, certainly TP's most exciting signing for me, though others have turned out to be better (Bego, Ryan, N'Zonzi, Adam, and Whelan last 6 months) but still like him and dogged way he has stuck to his job.
