Any close to making it? I thought I read something about Shawcross.

Shawcross is England's best centre-back, but isn't close to the squad because this country now inexplicably places a high value on David Luiz style defenders who in olden times would be consigned to playing in central midfield in the fourth division.

Signing for Stoke doesn't seem to do any player's England ambitions any good at all.

And if he signed for a top four club he would be given a second chance to prove himself. He'd be a future England captain if he joined The Shit!

It seems everyone has written Shawcross off thanks to a 15 minute cameo against Zlatan fucking Ibrahimovic in a meaningless friendly.
Of course in Hodgsons mind this is a perfectly justifiable reason to not pick him, he hung him out to dry on purpose because he didn't want him in the squad.
It's Wenger's fault as well, that poisonous cunt, his vitriol spread in the media has helped to paint this untrue picture of Ryan nationally, someone bundle both of the cunts in a barrel and kick it off beachy head.

Yet he will still again have the best stats of each English centre backs this coming season.

It would be interesting to see a comprehensive list of players overlooked by England while at Stoke.

Yes, and we should shout it every week until things change and he is picked. It is the only way. yes because that's how the FA and the England managers pick their squad isn't it? i know, to really push for it why don't we do something even more influential and start a feckin facebook page about it eh or maybe an online petition because they really make a real difference in life!

I have a bad feeling that if Ryan doesn't break back into the squad this season then it may be his last in a Stoke shirt, he deserves to play for England. I want Ryan to play out his career here but if he wants to play for the national side I don't think he'll be representing us which is bullshit but all the best to him if he leaves

There is another thread about Dave Watson.
If memory serves me right, Watson moved to Stoke for regular football so that he could win his place back in the England World Cup squad.
He played superbly for us, but he didn't make the WC squad.

In the fa cup season prior to matty's injury v wolves, i'm sure there was rumblings of a call up, which eould have been justifiable co sidering how well he was playing, shame about that injury.

I think crouch should have been selected. In the Korea v Algeria game, Korea brought on this really tall kid and he caused a bunch of problems for Algeria. Crouchie could have done the same thing, then again so could have Andy Carroll.

I think we'd be lucky to get £15m for him he's worth much more than that to us but rarely do centre halves go for silly money

Not too worried. England are shit anyway. Miles off the top teams in the world. If he was called up, he'd only be blamed for mistakes by donkeys like Cahill. I'd rather keep him nicely tucked away at home so he can have another player of the season award.
