What are the main challenges facing the new government? You mean apart from a total lack of political nous and knowledge of the real world? The central problem is the lack of true radicalism. When this country was great, we didn't have the welfare state, a National Health Service or free education. What we did have was an empire, no income tax and a fucking big navy. You don't need a PhD to work it out, do you?
Just looked it up to see when it was I saw The Smiths on their Meat is Murder Tour at Guildford Civic Hall (28th Feb, 1985).
Fuck, I feel old now - was it was really nearly 30 years ago ?
Remember it well, some bright spark smuggled in a Big Mac from McD's in the high street and hit Morrissey full in the face with it when he came on waving his flowers around - the place fucking erupted and there was a real edge to their performance with Johnny Marr angrily thrashing out every note like Steve Jones.
Great venue and some great nights especially the punk nights (always a massive ruck) - Stranglers, Damned, SLF (U2 supporting !!!), The Jam, Bauhaus, Buzzcocks, etc.
Oh to be a teenager again...
loved the civic hall G-Live which replaced is just as good
