Really put a smile on my face. Great to see Mama staying in Stoke, and to have the current staff and players there for the opening. Finally, I'll have a reason to visit Hanley next time I'm back in England!

Jackie Mudie had the green grocers opposite the bottom of Victoria Street in Basford. ?? Bottom of Victoria street is in Hartshill? Or do you mean the cross roads with Shelton new road?

Truly gorgeous. Teas, coffees, crepes and a nice area to sit. Really worth a visit Sounds like Darwin arriving on the Galapagos for the first time.

It's also very nice to see that there's been a big turnout from the club there. They didn't need to show some support for a former player, it's just a nice touch of class. Absolutely. Hughes has no links with Mama whatsoever so impressed to see him there. Could hardly see TP turning up to at the opening of a fishmongers shop for Tryggi and Ziggi.......

Would anyone know if it's open on Sundays, if so I'll pop in and put a little custom his way. Well the Intu Potteries Shopping Centre is, so I would hope Patisserie Melice is too ! I popped in yesterday, and had an excellent coffee and cake. For those Potters expecting a shrine to Mama or the Potters, you'll be disappointed to hear that it's simply a patisserie, without any theming except Paris. But for those coffee and cake lovers out there: it knocks the socks off the standard fayre of Costa and Nero. The cakes are imported directly from Paris and the Chocolate Mille Feuille (the chocolate equivalent of a vanilla slice!) is heavenly at £3. Kids are well catered for with fruit juices and crepes, plus a sensible choice of coffees, teas and hot chocolates. When I visited, 2 hours into the opening, they'd pretty much sold out, but were restocking ! It's really Mama's wife Benita's baby, but I guess Mama's childminding while she runs it ????

Is it better than Chatwins? I really miss their custard slices. That's a blast from the past. Am I right in thinking it was a Nantwich based business?? Only had a select number of shops around the South Cheshire/North Staffs area. And them custard slices were the fucking bollocks.

On other ex footballers opening shops....
Lou Macari has or had a chip shop near Old Trafford and I'm pretty sure one of his sons owns a couple of Dominos Pizza Outlets around here?

After leaving the game,Paul Macari took up co-ownership of the Hanley branch of Domino's Pizza; in March 2012 he provided the Port Vale squad with free pizzas after the club hit financial difficulties.[5]
