conveniently ignoring the question asked in the quote i mentioned i see....... Yes I'am sure the people over there in Brazil couldn't care less about the taxpayer. But is there any need for the BBC to ship every man and his dog across? so would you (if you worked at the BBC) say "Sorry but i refuse to go aas it's not fair on the British taxpayer and i believe the whole licensing system needs reform and until that happens i'm staying here" or would you fuck off to Brazil and get paid for it like the rest are doing? in other words, are you just someone who likes to moan about things that have nothing to do with them (i.e. how the license fee is used...it's not as if they've increased our licenses to pay for them going over is it?) or would you actually back that up if with taking a stand if you were in that position? pretty sure we all already know the answer to that...easy to sit back and criticise others isn't it?

It's a messageboard you are allowed an opinion, like you said iam sure they give a fuck about going on a nice holiday to Brazil. People will moan because do they need to take that amount of people to cover the event?

Highlights when England play yeah why look at facts (qualified scoring on average over 3 goals a game, only conceeded 4 in 10 games and topped the group, Hodgson having the highest win ration of any England manager in history etc.) when we can just jump on the "Slag England off because they're not as good as they were in 2006" bandwagon eh? jesus!!!! if people think england are shit and don't care about them then why feel the need to go on every thread just to slag them off??? do people have nothing better to do with their lives? The form England were in when they qualified and the form they're in now is completely different! To be fair to Woy, he's missing the pace of Walcott and Townsend which is a massive loss. Don't confuse scepticism with not caring. Of course, we all want England to do well but there won't be many fans not breathing a huge sigh of relief if we get out of the group?

Don't confuse scepticism with not caring. Of course, we all want England to do well but there won't be many fans not breathing a huge sigh of relief if we get out of the group? fair point and my rant was simply because i'm just tired of this over hysterical bandwagon that's suddenly got rolling (which i now see you're obviously not a part of...apologies for my presumption) that because we're not as good as we were years back then suddenly we're absolutely awful and no better than San Marino and Hodgson and the entire squad therefore need shooting. there's a huuuuuge grey area between being a World Class side and just shit.....Portugal,France, Italy even Holland are nothing like they were even a couple of years back or in years gone by and we're no worse than any of them (maybe Holland at the moment but that's not a given!). it's just the British mindset...if you're good then you HAVE to make the final or it's a let down, if we're not as good as we were then we MUST be absolutely crap and why bother even turning up.it's just lazy and untrue and apparently we should (if we believe half of these people) fear Italy because....well, we've always though they were good haven't we? sod the fact that for the last couple of years they've been average at best and are currently no better than us at all. to be honest, i don't think we can gauage anything at all on the friendlies we've played since qualifying so i don't see it that we're that different to when we qualified. you have to remember that the friendlies are nothing more than warm ups to keep the players fresh during close season. none of the players (of any of the countries that had warm up friendlies over the last couple of months) will have cared much at all about the result, they're far far more concerned about just staying fit and making sure they don't get injured. it's competitive games where you gauge their form and i think players like Barkley, Sterling and Ox will more than make up for the lack of Walcott and Townsend.

Going to the World Cup costs no more than for arguments sake a series of a costume drama, which I'd cheerfully see that the BBC stopped spending huge sums of money on. Dr Who isn't cheap either. Don't you think they look a bit low rent if they couldn't find the money to fly pundits, journalists and crews over to South America? They fly news crews around the world all the sodding time.
disclaimer: the above is my take on the cost of local coverage of the worlds biggest sporting event, not a justification for the inevitable benign cobblers that will be spouted by eight tenths of the 'pundits' (God I hate that word).

Another thread gone off topic in a big way!
When was the last time a BBC Pundit said anything that you felt enhanced your understanding or enjoyment of the game?
Because that should be their brief!

You've guessed it - the whole lot of the freeloading, on the gravytrain, snouts in the trough man, woman and dog have up sticks and flown to Brazil for a holiday all on the back of our TV license. There's millions of the fuckers out there. It's just been announced on Radio 2 that a well known, London-based, Welsh Premier League manager will be part of the BBC team. I won't upset Pugsley by naming him. Carl Darlington of The New Saints perhaps

Going away from the BBC all tv stations and media outlets do the exact same, they think we need a reporter outside the England hotel etc, what next a reporter watching the players take a shit.

Someones got to do it, if they asked you I'm guessing you'd turn it down due to feeling sorry for the license payers?
Would I balls, I'd be well indoctrinated into the BBC ethos of pissing money up the wall.
I don't blame Gabby fucking Logan for being there, I blame the people running the organisation ffs. There is absolutely no need for it.

it's not costing you a penny extra so what's your issue with it? as has been pointed out, why are there no threads asking for Dr. Who to be scrapped as that will cost a hell of a lot more a season than this World Cup coverage is costing....bandwagon!

Perhaps they wouldn't have to reduce budgets elsewhere if they were sensible about the amount of people they sent out there. You know, have more money available for more quality TV rather than ploughing money into Bargain Hunt, Great British Sewing Bee and all of the rest absolute dog shit they produce.
Don't you believe taxpayers should have a say in how their tax money is spent?
A piss take
Was the BBC's coverage 100 times better than ITV's? The BBC is littered with excessive spending of mine and your money.
How about this nugget

The BBC's funding mechanism is the exception to 99% of all media outlets nowadays but it still has to play by the same rules. Give me Lineker and Hanson in Brazil THAT WE PAY FOR WITH OUR LICENCE MONEY THE BASTARDS over adverts spattered every twelve minutes showing Joe Hart washing his hair or an advertisment for a car I cannot afford with a production budget that cost somewhere in the region of flying Lineker, Hanson and their lackies over to Brazil for a fortnight. Y'gemme.

BBC radio Match Commentators...
John Murray Chris Waddle Darren Fletcher Robbie Savage Conor McNamara Tony Pulis Ian Brown John Hartson Jonathan Overend Pat Nevin Alistair Bruce-Ball Brad Friedel Mike Ingham Alan Green Danny Mills Jason Roberts Kevin Kilbane Simon Brotherton
Have I missed anyone?
There must be some Rio de Janeiro and Salford studio 'Anchors' to add to that (Male Only) list? All flown out business class and put up and fed in top hotels no doubt, plus freebie memorabilia and personal endorsements/interviews.
Are the spouses along for the ride as well?
