The way things have come together this season, if we made some good investments in the summer then we've every right to aim high. A top eight finish with a cup win is realistically the best we could ever hope for.

Hahahaha top 6? Has geoff brought some of that american crystal meth to the uk? He's high as fuck. jeez....so we slagged off Pulis for not being ambitious enough and then slag off players when they ARE being ambitious? i'd much rather he came out and said what he has than "Nah, we're fine diddling about in 10-14th place thanks, we'll never get any further so why bother trying?"

I much prefer a realistic ambition mate. If he came out and said "our aim is to get top 10 consistently and win the fans a trophy in the next 5 years" then I'd be creaming myself. But aiming top 6 just smacks of bollocks to me.

Lets hope the club hierarchy back this with money to spend in the summer.

It's good to be ambitious. If we can get the proper reinforcements then yes we can aim high - a goalie of bego leaves, a right back, a centre half, assaidi on a perm and a goal scoring striker then we can do well in the cups and aim for a decent league position. Having said that I beleive that the first 7 places are already forgone conclusions - manure, citeh, chelski, arse, scouser scums, Everton, spurs. So max we can go is 8th IMO . The only way to Europe is via the cups

It's ammo for people like mr nonosense to post yet more drivel about how we're failing and the world is going to end because we're "only" 10th. and fair enough that may piss you and me off but why should the players tailor what they think and what they're going to say to fit in with what a few posters on the Oatcake think? he is, rightly, thinking about his career and his hopes for the future, whether the supporters believe him or not or think he's being over ambitious is 100% completely irrelevant to him and his career and that's the way it should be. whatever the players or management say, it will piss off someone on here. do you honestly think they do or should give a shit what people on the Oatcake think? if there were 30,000 people on here so it made up a lot of the support on a saturday then fair enough but in reality this board is a couple of thousand people, not all of whom even go to matches, posting THEIR personal opinions. even if posters like nononsense disagree with him on here that doesn't mean they'll be hurling abuse at or refusing to support Geoff on matchday so does it matter in any way, shape or form? No. it's simply a soundbite to sound positive and show the fans that the players DO have the intent to try to push on and not just be happy with mid table..he never even says we're capable of it in the article and actually uses the word "Maybe" not "Will"....positivity and reaching beyond yourselves produces good results, being happy with where you are and the lot you have been given produces nothing but stagnation

If we managed to finish 7th or as high as 6th as Geoff Cameron suggests we could challenge for, under the stewardship of Mark Hughes than he would rightly deserve the title Manager of the Century let alone Manager of the Year.
8th is the very best that we could ever hope for together with hopefully winning a major cup competition but it is great to be ambitious and it is great that clearly our sole objective is no longer 40 points, 4th from bottom and our managers 1m survival bonus.
Long may that be the case.

I think Stoke have a chance of being the surprise team of next season, given a bit of luck.
Regarding what people say on here, I think it is an important measure of supporters ( customers ) views and feelings about the state of the club.
Even if it is restricted to a relatively small number of fans, any business which ignores the opinions of a section of it fans, isn't being that clever.
The views on here, in the last twelve months of the Pulis era, must have created a strong impression of how people felt and would have almost certainly left its mark with the board.

We'd need a lot of luck and decisions going our way for once (unlikely I suppose), but I don't think a top 6 finish would be completely out of the question as a one-off - I know we're not in a position to do it consistently.
Think of the games we've thrown away at the last minute, and the ones we've been robbed of. Add those points to a hopefully improved ability to put our chances away, and I don't see it as being impossible, maybe the season after next if we continue to improve.
Not necessarily saying it will happen. Just saying it could.

The views on here, in the last twelve months of the Pulis era, must have created a strong impression of how people felt and would have almost certainly left its mark with the board. i agree to an extent but there is no way that the board will listen to one or two posters who whinge their bag off about anything especially because they may seem some players as being "Too ambitious" and nor should they! as you will have seen over the last 12 months, there are many many different viewpoints about Pulis so they wouldn't make any decisions based on just that at all, there is literally no way whatsoever that they could have done as they would know full well that by getting rid of Pulis would alienate as many fans as keeping him would do. you cannot please all the people all of the time so although SOME threads may show the opinions of supporters and their support for the club's stance on various matter, what matters far more and shows more of their opinion is bums on seats. THAT'S what they will largely refer to and not the viewpoints on a messageboard which is basically just a sounding board for people to vent their post match spleen on especially given how fickle all fans are and will be calling for someone's head one minute then praising the same person 3 weeks later if we've suddenly had a good run. you can't really compare threads like this to the threads over the last 12 months about who the manager should be.

We won't make 6th while we are shat on week in week out by the officials. As soon as the powers that be see the likes of us getting near the top 6 then the red cards and post match bans will shower down like confetti. Does nothing for the brand having 'dirty' Stoke near the top.

Agree, we could have 6 or so more points if we hadn't been shafted against Newcastle, Spurs, Spurs again, and elsewhere, putting us up near to Southampton. Now the players have had a few months to get used to the system, and a few new squad players, why not?

I like his talk. It is nice to hear our players aiming to be the very best for OUR club. Don't understand myself why he is being slagged off by some, he wants top 6 with Stoke, not with some other club in his career. These are things as fans we want to hear. It will be tall order to break into the top 7, but as long as we have players who want to do it with us, I feel a damn sight better for it
