What is the point in putting him on?
He hasn't got a hope in hell of being selected. Unfortunately that is the way it is.

If Curtis Davies is in there then why not Shawcross?

It does make you think though a Club Captain with 200 Premier League appearances for a moderately successful side with a generally decent defensive record isn't touted but you have on there a bloke whose barely started shaving with less than 20 league appearances.
Fucking pathetic media, fucking pathetic manager.

That is the mentality with football.
Very much the same mentality on this message board with our own players.

Anyone who think Stones, however good a prospect he is, is better prepared to go to Brazil than Shawcross shouldn't be allowed to go near a dressing room. If you think that then you probably think Smalling is better than Shawcross.
Oh hold on we're actually talking about fucking Woy here aren't we?

I think a new nail has been hammered into his International coffin with the arrival of John Stones on the Premier League scene. Which has immediately knocked Shawcross down even further than he was before.
It only bothers me because Ryan deserves International football, i honestly think he really does and he's been at this club since he was 19 years old and been one of the most integral parts of our journey from unrated and almost forgotten Championship club to established mid-table club in the most watched top flight league in world football. I won't say any more, every one of our supporters knows how good he is (apart from the very odd 1 or 2)
That's why his constant omission from the England squad bothers me, i feel for him.
The obvious flipside is that to me personally, Stoke City is all that's important to in football so as long as he's playing well for us then i'm happy but when thinking of how he must feel, he must be gutted to not have his deserved place within his national squad.

It's amazing how underrated Shawcross and Begovic are by fans of other teams. I saw a forum discussing team of the season earlier... Marshall, De Gea, Cech, Speroni(!) all mentioned but Bego not even considered!

He had his chance and he blew it. . Cahill was afforded the luxury of blowing his two or three times and actually allowed to start a game.

He had his chance and he blew it. Shawcross got done with a brilliant bit of skill by one of the world's best strikers. Cahill got completely mugged off a bloke in his mid 30s, plying his trade in Canadian footy. Cahill started the next England match.

He must have made a really poor impression during the week away before the Sweden game.
Dunno whether Hodgson didn't feel he was vocal enough or he just had an off week in training? It can't be down to being done by Zlatan, can it? No-one's that dumb
He should be smack bang in the conversation and it's downright bizarre that he isn't.
I'd like to think this isn't Stoke bias showing because anyone with eyes could see that he's been consistently imperious recently while other apparent contenders have been laughing stocks.

We should be seeing a Stoke player at the World Cup this summer playing for England and making us all feel a little bit of pride. Its been many years since this has happened, and definitely before my time.
If Hodgson ever makes it to the Britt (perhaps when Southampton are in town), he should get some serious abuse.

If Shawcross doesn't get in the England set up that's up to Hodgson..... However, the thing that pisses me is, if Shawcross was to leave for a bigger club not only would he walk straight into the England squad........chances are, he'd walk straight into the starting 11
That's how pathetic Roy Hodgson and the F.A. are!!!

Hodgson didn't want to pick Shawcross but there was a bit of a clamour in the media. If Roy really wanted to see how he would perform he would have started him.Instead he brings him on with 20 minutes left up against the man of the moment at that time. I'm convinced Roy wanted him to play badly so he wouldn't have to pick him again. He got his wish. Hodgson is a dick

Shawcross should just go and play for Wales.
Him, Ramsey and Bale would be the makings of a good team.

Congratulations - the most stupid post of the week![/] Players ( not just our own) are consistently written off on the basis of brief performances on this board. I don't think that is a major revelation! Players who don't play always seem a better option than the ones who have not necessarily produced the goods immediately when given their chance.
