I think the views of Moores are a little unfair. He played at the top level for us and Spurs and could hold his head up for what he achieved. He was underrated in my opinion. Didn't he end up in Greece (Cyprus?) playing with Terry Mcdermott? As for Jimmy Roberston, I couldn't agree more. A proper right winger who played some great footy for us. He went to Cyprus with a few other footballers. I knew his wife polly, she said all footballers are like kids, they try too bet and drink more than each other. He sold insurance when he retired.

Factoid for you Ian Moores is buried 4 yards from my dear old dad in Biddulph in St Lawrences churchyard. Mooro has a large football on his gravestone, my owd has his beloved old Sunderland badge on his (was a Mackem from Stanley, Co Durham, moved here as a child) I can remember Ian Moores as a regular visitor to Knype CC when I was a teenager playing there, a popular guy and well thought of by friends and acquaintances locally in town. About the same distance from my mum and dad's grave. Small (next)world ain't it? Moore used to call in at the garage I worked at (opposite Biddulph Arms) when I was a petrol pump monkey. Never managed to get talking about Stoke though.

Hi. I saw Ian Moores play many times for us & was at the Bristol Rovers game when he scored his hat-trick but unfortunately the fans never really took to him. This is a decent read. www.mehstg.com/moores2.htmAs for 'they played for Spurs & Stoke' this list is (fairly) accurate. Paul Allen Garry Brooke Joe Brough George Clawley Garth Crooks Peter Crouch Matthew Etherington Ray Evans Márton Fülöp Eiður Guðjohnsen Ken Hancock Archie Heggarty Stephen Kelly Fred Latham Billy Leech Gerry Mahon Ian Moores James Morton Wilson Palacios Tony Parks Jimmy Robertson Hans Segers Paul Stewart Charlie Wilson Jonathan Woodgate No idea how the game will go. Will the Stoke players be on their deck-chairs? Spurs still need 7 pts from our last three games to be guaranteed 6th & thus qualification for the much maligned Europa League (assuming Man U win their last 4 games). We might possibly sneak a win by the odd goal in a close game. Remember Ken Hancock. He was Port Vale's regular keeper for many seasons in early 60s having come through Stokes Youth set up. He moved on to Ipswich before moving to Spurs as Jennings understudy in late 60s early 70s.

I was going to post something similar. He's buried about 8 yards from my Mum and Dad. I think he married a lass who was Miss Biddulph and on the day they got married Garth Crooks drove down our road and asked me directions to the Church. There's trivia to send you to sleep.

Ian Moores was a good player. He was probably under-rated because of the quality of the team that we had at the time. If finances had been different I'm sure he would have gone on to score a hatful of goals for us.

I knew Ian quite well before his football days. We were in the Scouts together in Silverdale and he was football mad then, always kicking the ball around the Scout hut. Little did we know what he was to become. He never forgot his roots unlike Garth; Ian would often came back to Silverdale and spoke to everyone. He would still nip into the Vine occasionally and say hello. His only blight was a car crash which left some bitter feelings as I recall. Last time I saw him in Silverdale, he was a very sick man then but still took the time and trouble to speak.
