Not his biggest fan but he deserves credit for really getting after it when he came on today. His energy really shows when he comes on fresh vs tiring opposition.

It's the best way to use him IMO.

He did well and should have come on earlier to be honest.

An impact sub is the best way to use him. Ineffective for 90 minutes, but lively in the last 10-15

I thought both Assaidi and Walters looked handy and we were more positive as a result of the subs - if the game had gone on another ten minutes, I'm sure we would have won.
I guess the only question is - did Hughes make them early enough?

I thought he should've made them 10 minutes earlier Paul. Right subs, too late.

Give the lad his due, he's been benched, used sparingly and still gives his all without moaning unlike some spoiled cunt who adorned the Cardiff bench.

If you're a defender you would love it if Jon Walters was in the opposing starting line-up (unless you're a big ponce like John Terry or Gary Cahill or David Luiz).
But if you see him coming on with 20 minutes to go, you would think, oh no, I'm tired already, now I've got to spend thousands of seconds getting to the imaginary balloon ahead of this ridiculous dog. It's like when you've had a long day at work, then get home and instead of lying on the couch you have to spend the evening making sure your neighbour's special needs kid doesn't wee on your wife's laptop. You just can't relax.

Could have had a spectacular goal and should have had a cracking assist if oussama had finished his chance. Good effort jonny.

SJW always cares, always appreciates the fact that he's being paid to do what he loves and always gives everything. Huge respect.

In essence no. It's my biggest bugbear of Hughes that his use of subs on the whole has been below par, in my eyes he often leaves subs to late or only uses 2 subs. You need to give subs at least 20-30 minutes to get into the game and make an impact.

He wasn't expecting Pieters to have to come off so early (Muniesa was a great replacement) and may have been wary of other knocks. However I don't understand the need to always use all 3 subs, it can unsettle the team needlessly and I think that he has been sensible in such decisions

Assaidi and Walters really helped to put the wind up them in that last 10 minutes.

He showed what a true professional he is. No player likes being on the bench and it was obvious Walters came on and wanted show Hughes he wants his starting place back. Fair play to him.

Football is a squad game these days - what is on your bench is absolutely vital. Having SJW and Assaidi coming on for the last 15-20 mins is very good news for us.

Plenty of managers bring players on in the last 10 to shore up the midfield or try to sneak a goal (or just slow the game down)
