Absolute nonsense. He's the best player in the league in my opinion and I'm sure many fans would agree.

Highly paid footballer talking absolute shit? What a surprise. To be honest I've always thought he comes across ok in the media, and I'm not sure why he feels the need to pull the race card all of a sudden?

I think he's the best player in the league and I don't think I'm alone in that. What does he want?

I think part of it is because he didn't make it at Barca...
It doesn't help playing in the Premiership and his club not doing well in the CL
He's not playing for a global 'super club' either, he needs to be at a Barca/Real/Bayern type club rather than nouveau riche pretenders like Man City to real make a name for himself.
I'd say he gets respect in this country and from fans like he says. He might have a point about not getting much respect across the rest of Europe though.

Suppose playing for an oil club doesn't help rather than one of the big European clubs.

Brilliant footballer but quite clearly talks shit. What compounds the shitness is the mention of Drogba who is widely regarded as one of the Premier League's all time greats and Eto'o, widely regarded as one of the world's best strikers.

Rubbish. Everyone knows he's a top player. Definitely in a prem XI and decent contender for world XI

He may be onto something though - remember he is talking African, not skin colour.
FIFA world player of the year / Ballon d'Or has been running since 1991 in which time just two African players have been placed 1, 2 or 3 (George Weah who won in 1995 and Samuel Eto'o who was third in 2005.
By contrast France have had 10 placings, England 5!

I don't think he's saying they aren't considered great, rather they did not receive enough consideration for things like the ballon d' or despite their impressive form.

The fact it's a yearly competition explains why a couple could be disputed as 1 stellar season is enough to put you in contention, i.e Jari Litmanen.

He is a fantastic player and gets credit in this country but in a world context he may well have a point.
As others have pointed out above he does not appear to be referring to a colour issue - he says African, not black.

I think he's the best player in the league and I don't think I'm alone in that. What does he want? He does say he gets recognitions from fans to be fair. On the face of it it seems far fetched at least, and I dont know if being African has anything to do with it, but compared to the likes of "the media never picks up on how much I dive" Iniesta he maybe isnt seen in the league of players he should be

He's not on the same level as Suarez or Hazard IMO, and I think I'd rather have Gerrard over him in the middle too. A cracking player though and gets as much recognition as he deserves, which is a lot.

Maybe he'd get his desired level of recognition if he wasn't such a lazy shit. He's brilliant when the team is up for it. Against Liverpool the other day I don't think he'd actually moved until he got injured.

What a load of absolute bullshit. He's considered the best central midfield dominator in the Premiership. Every other week, we have 2 minutes of Yaya Toure wankage from those buffoons on the BBC. No doubt, we'll get three minutes next time with Alan Hansen throwing every cliché bullshit ridden superlative he can think of.

Its utter rubbish.
For those saying he has a point, which africans have been better than messi and ronaldo in the last few years? Zidane is Algerian; perhaps toure should criticise him for choosing france rather than talk this nonsence. Toure would get in a world 11 for me.
