If we can get a fee for him all the better , he's not premiership standard , end of ! I'd hope we'd get a fee for him, around the £2.5m mark? To think of what we've spent (probably £30m) on Tonge, Olofinjana, Whitehead, Shea, Palacios, Arismendi, Danny Collins... Scandalous.

He's played ina promoted team and scored to day so he is entitled to celebrate. Maybe Burnley will want to keep him and why not.

Many congrats to Burnley and to Kights
Met him - he is a really nice bloke, poss not good enough at the top level but thats just how it is - pleased for him today and glad a team like Burnley have come up over moneybags QPR etc.
Hope Derby can come up too - thats 3 localish games and in reverse a long trip to Fulham, Cardiff and Sunderland off the list!

I remember his debut against Reading(?) when he played a beast of a match. But not consistent enough for me, a lot of the time he just steams forward without seeming to know where he is. We already have backup for Assaidi, Arnie and Odemwingie, which is what he'd be, so I'd get rid.
Seemed like a proper hard worker and the right type of players though, so all the best to him.

He was and is a decent player but by God was he frigging awful for us.
Glad he's done well, we might get some money for him now.

I'd welcome him back with open arms, a really good goal to minutes played ratio for us. Great competition for the right {or left} wing berth, especially in the 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 formations. Never really had a proper chance with us, and folk seem to judge him on his debut {a bit of a shocker vs Palace in the Cup} irony eh? He looked good in pre-season, could have seen him as a 'fox/wolf' in the box or even cover as a flying left wing back. Helping out at Burnley under Daish can be no bad thing. I'm all for a triumphal return under Hughes.

He scored on his debut against Reading.....
I'm judging him for us based on a season of awfulness. I do agree though, he'd suit how we play now way more than how we played. I still don't want him back though.

'Decent cameos with goals' is my recollection/perception.

It's all a bit of an historical trudge though, players out of position during a hiccupping transition... Shotton on the wing, Crouch in isolation, even Adam and Jerome as out and out wingers etc etc. I might be way off beam, but I've got some fond regards for Kightly. Hughes has resurrected some of our seeming duds, so why not Kightly. If we can sell him OK, but I think he has an eye for goal, and can whip in a cross too... maybe an Assaidi that we actually hold the contract for with a sprinkling of a bit of the Hughes/Bowen magic dust. Wouldn't want to write him off, there's always room for improvement. Why not?

Burnley midfielder Michael Kightly: "It's a great feeling. It's been a long season but we thoroughly deserve it. We'll enjoy today, then crack on next year. We never got complacent, we always stuck to the job. The boys have been different class and the fans have been magnificent."
Took this from the BBC post match write up for the recent Burnley win, the way it is written suggests to me that he expects to be at Burnley next season... Am I simply reading too much into this? I think selling him to Burnley for the same as we got him for (2 million?) would be a good deal for both clubs.

For what we paid for him he was worth the gamble. Showed a lot of potential then had some bad injuries, unfortunately he just didnt look good enough. Seems like a decent lad with a good attitude but he is a championship standard player.

I heard this interview on the radio, it was conducted on the crowd invaded pitch after the game. There's nothing in what he said or how he said it that suggests he's anything like definitely a Burnley player next season.
What else would he say? He's bound to talk about the achievement of the team and club as "we" isn't he. It's the reply you'd expect from anyone connected with the club, whether they're on loan or not. Can't imagine it being correct of him to reply "Well it's great for Burnley but i'm going back to my club which is Stoke City and i wish Burnley well next season" That'd be the completely wrong thing to say in that situation.
The first question put to him was "Premier League player next season then Michael, that must sound good?" and i was impressed that he didn't say "Well actually, i am technically a Premier League player at the moment" But again it's a standard question that gets trotted out in those circumstances and quite unresearched, it got a standard player response from Kightly.
I personally hope they sign him because i don't think he's particularly good and they may well do if the deals right for them and us. (I'd be happy at £1m to be honest to get him off the wage bill) I think you are reading much too much into his post-match bog standard and cliched comments though mate.

Scored goals for Burnley. Should make a profit on him in my view!

One of the worst players I've seen in a Stoke shirt during our premier league stay.

He's not as bad as some make out. He started well for us but because Pulis had him playing as a full back he lost all confidence. If he'd have been given a run under Hughes he'd have been a decent player for us and a much better option than Shea, Pennant or Walters.
