I just wanted to restore a bit of balance to the top of this Message Board. Seeing the various thread titles containing “Tony Pulis”, “Crystal Palace” et al. I thought it timely to remind everyone that this is a Stoke City Message Board. Anyway, I digress. Who’s looking forward to the away trip to Cardiff on Saturday? They’re fighting for their lives so the home fans will be in full voice. We’ll also be in party mode given our recent run of form and surge up the league so it all bodes well for an amazing atmosphere and brilliant away day. We’ll be there in numbers too with only a handful of tickets left, with over 2,000 already being sold. It should be a great day out and another opportunity to get more points on the board. We’re on course to break the record of our highest ever points tally in the Premier League and securing our first ever top 10 finish to boot. Most fans expected a period of time for transition before real progress was realised but Hughes has blown that out of the water and been an instant success; it’s an incredible time to be a Stokie!! The football is much improved and significantly more entertaining that it has been for years and we now have a side that possesses a genuine cutting edge and a Manager prepared to give them the freedom to express themselves and free rein to go out and play on the front foot. This campaign has been a breath of fresh air and has injected much needed impetus and optimism amongst the fans once again, after finding ourselves firmly in a rut at the end of last season. Expectation levels are rising again and there is a genuine buoyancy when looking forward to the next term under the leadership of Mark Hughes. “He’s a shit manager, look at the QPR debacle….”, “We’re ruined, he’s taking us down….”, “We’ve lost our identity….” – all that nonsense has been kicked into touch and Hughes has proven all the (knee-jerk) critics wrong. The feel-good factor is back and Season Ticket sales for next year have gone through the roof. It’s been a fantastic campaign and there are still 4 winnable games left to make it even more special, starting on Saturday in South Wales. Let’s be at our vocal best and give the Manager and Players the reception they deserve for a job thoroughly well done. Be Loyal, Be Proud, Be Stoke. Personally I don;t think Hughes has blown anything out of the water. While he has not done a bad job this season we have hardly excelled but there are signs of better things to come. We are still 5 points away from beating our highest total of points. Things have changed for sure, we have now played pretty poorly for 3 straight games but won 2 of them. In seasons past we probably would have lost all 3 so the win 3 then lose 3 we used to do under Pulis seems to have stopped. Some people seem to forget the bad first half to the season under our new manager, but as I said, it seems what he is trying to do is taking effect. Playing to win instead of playing not to lose is also another thing we seem to be doing. So playing to WIN our final 4 games WOULD put a good stamp on our season ! You've certainly got pretty high expectations. You are aware that we've got about the 14th highest wage bill in the division, which is usually regarded as the best barometer to gauge realistic expectations about finishing position? And do you really think "poor" is the right way to describe the performances against Hull and Newcastle? Are we going to swat solid teams like them away routinely playing sexy football? In the current climate, finishing 9th or 10th while playing reasonably easy-on-the-eye football is the Stoke version of climbing Everest surely?

Finishing 9th or 10th while playing reasonably easy-on-the-eye football is the Stoke version of climbing Everest surely? Surely not. You have to remember the other teams around us are playing much worse than us giving us the 10th spot we are in. What if everybody else were playing like we have been since February, look out here comes Palace. It seems to be a common consensus that we have played poorly our last 3 games, with my point being we managed to win 2 of those games due to luck or better guidance etc . who knows ?

It's easy to say our performances have been "poor" against Hull and Newcastle, especially when they come straight on the back of the blistering showings against Villa and West Ham.
I wouldn't say we were poor against either in all honesty. We weren't exactly great but somewhere in the middle would be a fair assesment.
Against Newcastle we created a good half dozen chances. Arnie put a couple on a plate for Crouchie, another for Adam and Cameron also stuck one on a plate for Crouchie too. You obviously need to put the chances away but I think we were worthy of the 3 points (against both Hull and Newcastle), although we weren't at our best in either. I think if you're the better side and create chances then it can't go down as a "poor" performance.

Didn't we have a similar size wage bill last year in comparison with ours peers? We finished 13th which would be about right. Yet there were fucking hysterics on here last year about what a cunt he was. Stop having it both ways wankstains!

why don't we just have one thread pinned entitled: "Belligerent fuckers who want to do nothing other than go on and on about PREVIOUS managers because apparently talking about our CURRENT manager isn't acceptable on the Stoke messageboard" and then the rest of us can enjoy talking about Stoke and their personnel instead of fucking Palace and their personnel!
fucking staggering that some on here appear to dislike having a thread about OUR manager but seem very happy to contribute to a 10 page thread about a bloke who left nearly a fucking year ago!
pathetic!

I have come to realise that there is a small number of idiots that operate on this message board. They are attention seeking trolls who love nothing more than stirring shit. I have noticed, when all goes quiet for a moment on the Pulis subject these people will find a way to bring it back up. They never have anything positive to say, instead carrying on with inflammatory BS designed to cause friction.
We all know that there is many different views on the previous manager, but these few idiots love to go over and over it, picking at the subject to get a reaction.
Instead of replying to these threads and giving them the reaction and attention they crave, why don't the decent people here just ignore it.

Pulis in charge for 10 years - spend £100 million - fans, via the Pulis propaganda machine, told not to have expectations, high ranking rimmers totally agree and slaughter anyone who questions it. Hughes in charge for 10 minutes - spend Ten bob - expectations from high ranking rimmers now through the roof and slaughter anyone who questions it.
Amazing

Amazing Putting aside all the Mr Pulis & hughes bollox for a sec. 100m over 10 years = 10m a year. There were some bad buy's and some very good buy's as all managers have but 100m (if that is the correct figure) over 10 years really isn't that bad when you consider where we are now and how much the club has earned over that period. Just saying like.

When Pulis 'departed company' with us, we all speculated about who we, incredibly biased fans, would like to replace him. Hughes came to us under the QPR cloud but in hindsight just how attractive a club did we look from Hughes' point of view? Taking off those red and white spectacles, looking back, I'd say not bloody very! Coupled with all the talk of self sufficiency from our Boardroom, if I were Hughes considering my future and reflecting on my previous managerial career decisions, I'd have legged it!
He clearly felt he could progress us, and yes, we've had bad days here and there but overall, this season for us (my family) has been full of anticipation and expectancy. I'm proud of Hughes for his belief in our club and i'm proud of our club for reciprocating the belief.
Your post is bang on the money for me WD

There's a lot of points and league position comparisons going on in this thread between the clubs managers, which is surely only part of the story. But the point is: Stoke are now playing attractive football, retaining more possession, making a lot more scoring opportunities, and still have a good defence. I feel better, most fans do, IMO the players are enjoying playing more, and this also bodes well to attract better players in the transfer window. Players who would otherwise choose not to play the way Stoke played before.
12 months ago I was pretty cheesed off watching Stoke; hoof ball, 10 man defence, etc. etc. It wasn't bad when Stoke could be relied upon to upset other sides from set pieces including long throws, but after 3 seasons the other clubs rumbled Stoke and the system became ineffective. Try as he may TP couldn't sign a forward who could consistently score goals year in and year out, and he went through an awful lot. Sorry whydeliilah, it was turning into a TP thread again! I am now enjoying watching Stoke City, look forward to the next game, and relishing the prospect of next season as I trust MH to sign the right players for the club.
