I have my stag do in Liverpool in May and was wondering if anyone knows of any decent alehouses/clubs? Ideally, decent ale (majority of us are between 30-40) and decent music (by decent I mean Stone Roses/Oasis/Joy Division/New Fast Automatic Daffodils/AC-DC - no Soul/RnB or such shite). We are there Fri/Sat - fri entails Aintree night meeting and Sat is spot or recuperation and then again into town for ale. Any advice on pubs/clubs welcome.

There are two Cavern clubs both opposite each other, go into the one that resembles the old club when the Beatles etc played there. Even at 4pm it's a good venue, and the prices are responsible as well. With good live music. But Matthews street is busier as tweet said, for chill out & food Albert Dock. It's a good night out better than Manchester.

We are staying at the Albert Dock premier inn, but the bars there look a bit too la-di-da for me, the young uns in the party may head there? The Cavern club sounds like may be a tick on the list? As long as got decent music that isn't too loud and won't give me headaches and nausea then be fine (far too old for banging tunes!!!!!!!!!)

Many pubs have live bands at weekends though. Just across the road from Albert Dock is the Baltic Fleet a nice micro brewery for starters, then any or all of ...... The Philharmonic Dining Rooms (The Phil, a must just for the architecture) Belvedere Arms The Fly in the Loaf The Roscoe Head The Dispensary Globe The Grapes Ye Hole in Ye Wall Thomas Rigby's The Ship and Mitre (My old Uni haunt if you like real ale you'll find literally hundreds here along with ciders and foreign beers. Wooden floors, no frills and great burgers served through a hole in the wall for a fiver). Doctor Duncans (a nice drop of Cains FA). Head of Steam (out the back entrance of Lime Street Station although the last time I was passing it wasn't open which was odd. Shame if it's closed down because it used to sell a couple of Titanic Ales on draught). Plenty here.... enjoy!

If you start at The Philharmonic then it is all downhill literally from there back to your hotel. If you do Hardman St. Bold St and wood St on one night then you can start at The Ship & Mitre the next night and do Mathew Street. I wouldn't do The Phil and Mathew Street together. They are too far apart.

Heeby Jeebys is a good bar/club to go to towards the end of the night.Tends to be suited more to your (and my) style of music. Not sure exactly where it is even thought iv been countless times. All I remember is it's walking distance from Matthew street!

Heebies is brilliant
You will only have issues with the door lads if you behave like idiots, also don't go in a group of more than 4 try to split up as they don't like large groups.

Last yr me & the misses went on the train to Liverpool for our 1st wedding anniversary & my birthday. We had some food at the dock, the blue bar or something similar? (It's a comedy bar at night). It was pretty good! But Matthews street is the place to go at night. If you like places like Manchester or Birmingham? Then you should love Liverpool?
