What are your thoughts on him as a GK? Thought he did alright against England to be honest.

I know that, but if Sorro leaves we will need more than a youth backup

If we lose Bego in the summer and I think we will, I would go for Marshall from Cardiff if they go down.Do we want to chance Butland is up to it week in and week out its one hell of a gamble.

Wasn't that precisely why we bought Butland?

Butland is obviously not going to be as good as Begovic straight off the bat but the lad is England's U21 goalkeeper (and captain), extremely experienced for his age and is considered one of the best young keepers in the game. What's the point in buying players for the future if we never play them?

Best keeper outside the prem. Next season one of the best in the prem. He'll go all the way to the top.

Why would he help to get a team promoted and then leave to sit on a another team's bench?. Butland will be number one and Bachmann will be on the bench.

If Kasper was English, he'd be higher rated than Jack. Very good goalie with pedigree

It would be very risky to start the season with just Butland and Bachmann. We do need an experienced keeper as back up. Kasper Schmeichel clearly isn't going to leave one Prem club to be back up at another so we can count him out. But, assuming Soro and Bego leave an experienced keeper has to be a priority.

Grade A flapper and makes plenty of mistakes. Surprisingly short too.

Butland did well on his brief appearances for us when Bego was injured We want to keep him, he deserves a chance at Premiership football.

Grade A flapper and makes plenty of mistakes. Surprisingly short too. Totally agree, he's very unsure from crosses. However he is very good shot stopper and has the same 'making himself big' like his Dad. Still only young but not convinced that's he's a better option than Butland and he's better than being a number 2 keeper.

I don't really see how he is a step up on Butland. He hasn't looked particularly brilliant on the few occasions he's played at the top level. Not bad, just not brilliant, at least not yet. His surname can only get him so far.

This...for me he's no where near ready to play 38 premier league games. He needs to be eased in not flung into the deep end, it could destroy him ala Scott Carson.

If Bego goes we do need a new keeper, and it has to be a very well thought out decision. He would definitely have to be experienced, late 20s at least, but at the same time we should bring them in not with the promise of becoming our number 1 but with the intention of having to battle with Butland for the spot. That competition between Sorro and Bego played a significant role in Bego's rapid rise. The pressure and motivation is what Butland needs to accelerate his development.

I know that, but if Sorro leaves we will need more than a youth backup Schmeichel wouldn't leave promoted Leicester to sit on Stoke's bench. Butland is the future, we just got to hope he is ready for when Bego decides to move on.

If Kasper was English, he'd be higher rated than Jack. Very good goalie with pedigree Absolute arse. The only "pedigree" he's got is the fact that his old man was a fantastic goalkeeper. Granted, he's excellent on his day, a great shotshopper and is decent at rushing out by making himself big (ooo er missus..) but he makes far too many mistakes especially on crosses. As bayern pointed out, he's a flapper and highly unconvincing on crosses and commanding his area. Butland on the other hand, for a young lad, is far more commanding, which is an important trait to become a top keeper.
