I would say I'm quite qualified to answer this one, I have lived in Melbourne my whole life....
I'm not sure what 'orate' means but Melbourne is a great place to live.
There's a real community vibe and friends, friends of friends and even people who have briefly met on a message board will often sleep on each others sofas.
There is also two A League teams which you could try for, you should get in one of them given you already play at the Traders league level in Stoke.
Melbourne has a few pubs, one or two good restaurants and a beach that opens on the weekends in summer so there's plenty to do here.

SCFC2014 and GAZSFC have you thought about a house swap which would allow you to pursue your respective footballing dreams? Obviously there's a big element of trust involved here but since you've both met on an internet message board I can''t really see what could possibly go wrong.

You can all take your face for a cak I'm going ozzies to play football not to push some blokes dinner back,I play at a good level I'm quick an fast an skilleful and shoot with both pegs so dunner come on with coment cause I'll show you lot who I am SCFC2014 mate, just one small point of clarification, it would be him pushing your dinner back , not you pushing his back, if you see what I mean without being too technicals, taking one for the team so to speak. But as you say it's not your cup of tea so let's leave it at that. Like I said he tries it on a bit when his wife's out shopping or after lights out, but just keep your wits about you and you should be ok. Failing that just shout some stuff at him dead loud and he will be scared of his wife and mother in law waking up. Eg GEROFF! DECK IT! DUNNER MATE! OY! Or a simple but firm THOSE ARE MY PRIVATE PARTS AND YOURE NOT TO TOUCH THEM Actually on second thoughts, don't use DUNNER, it's Gaelic for go faster so might make matters worse. I have to say you're getting some rate abuse on here, you a fellow stoke as well, dread to think what it would be like if you we're a vale or man utd fan. In recent posts you've been called A DICK, NOB, TWAT, VALVE, TUBE, DRUGGIE, and WIERDO. Good on you for coming back for more. You'll need that kind of toughness to make it in the a league keep going our youth

I heard that to get into 'Ozzie' you get a full medical check-up including a doctor's big hamfisted hand going up your back passge. I reckon a stay in Thailand before hand will set you up well

I have written a song for our 2 footed starlet that is gonna represent our great city in ozzie when he plays for Brisbane Roar. " At break of day when Yotha arrived Joe was shaking.... whhhhooooaaaa Whhhooaaaaa. Yoth crossed the street to his hose, Joe opened the door... Whhhoooaaaa Whoooaaaaa Joe Stood there laughing. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, Yoth had a contract in hand, To play for the Roar. Where where where's yr Sofa. Na Na NA Na NA Na NA Na Na Na Where where where's Yr Sofa, Na NA NA NA NA NA NA NA. So, Before I go to play for the Roar, Give me some pillows and give me the keys to your door.

I'll get 'decked'' (on a message board) for offering help and advice? Mate have you read the other comments and replies on your threads? Apart from gaz, everyone else thinks you're crazy or on a massive wind up! And I have my doubts about him sometimes, his story is well similar to yours but in reverse. But I give him the benefit of the doubt as I'm a stoke fan and want to help a brother out. I live in a bedsit in one of the roughest parts of Cardiff and walk around granger town and canton in my stoke top to try and meet other stokies and talk about the good times.I'm mates with a west brom fan who one day will be prime minister, now normally I wouldn't wee on a west brom fan if he was on fire but down here were in the same boat so to speak and I play in his 5 a side team down the allotments. Like you I had enough of living in stoke one day and upped sticks. The final straw came for me when I was barred from the market tavern, French horn, the pig pen and McDonald's all on the same day. Strewth. Talk about trying to help a guy out I tell you.

SCFC2014, a simple and easy one for you -how do you compare to Ernie Tapai? He should be the ultimate barometer for Stoke fans trying to make it in the A league, as he was a massive success for Stoke in 1993-94, but then really struggled to make any appearances or impact after he moved to the A league down under. Or was it the other way round. Im not sure, I was on a 2 stretch at the time, so didnt see many games. But I do know that Ernie is by far the best sportsman that Oz has ever produced. He is even in the 'Top 5 Most Famous People Ever from Australia', up there with Kylie and The Crocodile Man. In fact, Id place him just underneath Rolf Harris

That's why it's called the A league... Bit like the A team....Not getting on that plane you crazy fool...OK BA...Have a glass of milk...6 hours later wakes up in Columbia...I'll kill you Murdoch you jibber jabbering fool... Then they all get nicked and locked up in a fully equipped workshop and build a tank....Just brilliant....

Wow dont know what to make of this thread :-). Going to ask a sensible question though to any australian based stokies who follow the a league, have any of you heard of rostyn and brent griffiths? I only ask because i am very loosely related to them. Are they any good?

Rostyn Griffiths is a handy defensive midfielder that like a number of local players tried his luck in Asia. I don't think it worked out as well as he wanted and he is back at Perth I believe. I don't know much about Brent .
