Did agriculture at Nottingham, came over here and worked in commercial beekeeping (seriously - it's still a hobby) Had 15 years in Sydney but got fed up with the city and hankered back after the country. My wife comes from up near Tamworth (NSW, not Staffs) and we both wanted to get back to the country. Can't really live in a village like back home and commute to Stoke, Brum, Manchester or wherever works takes you because as you know it's too capital city - centric here. Bathurst is the closest truly rural town to Sydney over the mountains and is 2 1/2 hours on a good run. So put the house on the market, it sold in 3 weeks, then upped and left for Bathurst. At the same time, I rent a room in a shared place in Sydney so don't get to see the family Monday to Friday. Now on 35 acres, getting a few cattle, got the bees going again, (won 1st for my honey in the Royal Bathurst show), got the chickens going (more eggs than I know what to do with) and just getting a sign done for the gate; going to call the place 'Dovedale' after many happy times around Ilam as a kid. I've removed the ozzie flag that flew from a flag pole in the front garden and bought a England flag from a place in Stoke on my last trip. All I need now is a stoke flag but not sure where to get one from. Got the Foxtel going last year because I could stand it no more and wanted to get the games live. So there it is - not quite living in Werrington, fishing at Stanley Pool and going to the Black Lion in Consall Forge or the Yew Tree at Cauldon Low but I am happier living there than I've been in years. Very romantic story Marrer. Do you grow your own weed!?! Why do you think he drives over the Blue Mountains every week? Those baggies don't sell themselves Marrer - you have a PM

Chugga, quite a few top players have pre-match rituals or superstitions, eg always wear a pair of lucky green pants or turn the bathroom light on and off 3 times on matchday.
Do you have any customs or beliefs of this nature that you will be taking to Oz

just gettin me sen ready for ozzie land i am yoth doing training drils runing coner wait yoth Make sure you pack some of the things from home that you think you will miss. Food, drink and all that. If you like cadbury chocolate, they have it here but it never tastes quite the same. I think they put something in it. Quavers can be tough to get hold of as can marmite and Daddies Sauce. Those little home comforts can make all teh difference on those lonely nights away from the home country.

Good story marrer. I live in the country and hate having to go to Melbourne now and then I know mate, I could never understand why I wasn't really happy at weekends and then realised being in the city at the weekend is like still being at the office. It's got a lot to do with spending my youth fishing at Stanley Pool and wandering the fields. All this bloody concrete and bitumen drives me mad.

I had a mate once who was working as a short order chef in Canterbury so I went down to see him for the weekend, and on the way down on the train I thought I had better do some preparation and read some of the Canterbury Tales by Chaucer. I found it very hard going. I should have watched the TV adaptation with Billie Piper. I liked Canterbury when I got there and went on the Canal and to some old buildings. Unfortunately by the time I arrived, my mate had been sacked from his job (he worked in the catering industry and there were no crackers and it was his fault). In literary terms, I was more impressed with Christopher Marlowe, but couldn't see much of a tribute to him in the town, just a small statue outside of the Marlow Theatre, which was old and run down, certainly not a fitting tribute to a poet who many think wrote Shakespeare.
Tina, Does one of the Canterbury tales or indeed any of Chaucer's stories parallel the life and times of the Chuggmeister?

The chocolate tastes different over here (and in other hot countries) because they put a chemical in it which stops it from melting in the heat as much.

WTF I'm gone 5 minutes to check on the spuds and........105 pages on this Johnny come lately, Chaucer chancer, glory hound, arriviste BOJAN? And he can only do 100 Keepie ups? What's all that about?
I had a quick look at this so called red hot flaming thread...
" he is ace" , "no fuck off he is crap" , " no my mate at work said he will be shit until Christmas then will get better "
How the CHUFFING hell have they kept that level of inane babble going for so long?
Where is the angst? The ups and downs? Sexual ambiguity, poetry, last minute accommodation, local dialect as pure passion?
Where have you gone Joe Di Chuggio , our nation turns its lonely eyes to you!

Hey Marrer, I know how you feel. Used to live opposite Meir Aerodrome and used to do a lot of fishing at Longton Park. A lot of people didn't know that on the Aerodrome there was a pool at the back full of Carp.

A lot of people didn't know that on the Aerodrome there was a pool at the back full of Carp. I remember spending many happy hours fishing at a place called Mill Meece, in a stretch of water leased by Rists Wires & Cables Angling Club (for whom my Dad worked) When I first came to Oz and started fishing, I was forced to kill carp that would have made the front page of The Angling Times any week; it almost made me cry and my Dad couldn't believe it! I currently have ten 'pet' carp in one of my dams at the moment; they all look like mini submarines, and I just love to watch them meander around the edges of the water looking for food Happy Days
