Does anybody know how much prize money each position in the league gets? I ask because after looking at the fixtures, I really think we can catch Newcastle and finish 9th. Taking into account our limited spending, it could really help us come the summer.

there was a thread on this on another teams forum i was on the other day, it is around 1.4 million per position this year and 10th was just over 16 million EDIT: these figures were based on prize money alone depending where you finish in the table, no tv money etc

Found this graphic showing expected total income for the pl this season. If it's correct it shows the difference between 9th & 10th is over £3.3 million
EDIT: just noticed already posted above.......

Am I right in thinking a run in the Europa League to the knock-out stages (i.e. as far as we got the other season) only brings in around 2 million pounds through prize money and TV revenue?
Amazing if that's the case that just one (mid table) position higher in the Premier League could be worth so much more.
We as fans would be ecstatic with the prospect of another 'European Tour' but unless I'm completely wrong about this the 'suits' on the board would see it as a hindrance.

I think 'the board' would have us think the loss of europa football is worth about £46m! You know just to get that £30m loss to add up.

Wow so we've guaranteed another £60m+ for the club by staying up. I know spunking money has been a major issue for QPR but surely it warrants a small war chest for Hughesy in the summer?
How much should he have??

Still with FFP being a farce we should be able to inject some money into new transfers. With Ethers, JP, Edu, Shea(?) off the wage bill there's money to invest in wages, even albeit a loan or 2 again.

There is of course, sponsorship, gate receipts, player sales ( !! ) etc..... so after the running costs of the club are taken into account, there could be a few million to spare. Doubt it will be big bucks, this will be seen as a golden opportunity to put cash in the bank and ease off Bet365 for a year or so....I suppose the argument would be if we don't put something back into the club now....when will we ever do it?

Like the saying goes, you have to spend to stand still in this league... See United for that! (Arguably they doubled £27m on fellatio)

why does the team top of the league get more money for live tv but most of mid table gets the same?? Suely ALL TV money should be evenly distributed.

Staggering increase on last year with the new TV deal! So 10th this year would get us a WHOPPING £76.4m. Compared to a measly(!) £44.6m for finishing 13th last year.

Personally, I could never describe a sum of £44.6m as "measly". Rather I would describe it as "unattainable" for most of us!

Yeah...but have ticket prices gone down? Some money should be distributed to the fans - free away travel, all away tickets 10 pounds etc. Football tax should be introduced to redistribute wealth through the lower leagues so clubs don't go bust. Instead it makes the millionaires even richer and the poor clubs even poorer.

Question please I see the bottom 3 get large amounts of money is that all paid in a lump sum at the end of the season ?,Or is it paid out in stages

So a good finish to the season sees us 9th with just short of 80m, I think the worst we'll do now is 11th which is 73m.
That 7m is two decent players for our first 11 (more than Arnie and N'Zonzi combined cost). We're freeing up quite a bit in wages too to cover some new faces. Add the potential Begovic sale and there's no reason that Hughes shouldn't have 15-20m available.

I had suspected that something like that would be the case, but that is the 1st time I have seen in clearly spelled out, it is indeed astonishing. I'm much less sure about whether it will allow us to steal a march on other Prem clubs though, I think it is more likely to fuel further player wage inflation. It's a bit like fast rising house prices. It's not a gain you ever actually realise, it just puts the upgrade to a 4 bed detached number further out of reach

But it does show that spending April & May 'on the beach' cam cost 10m to the club

Yes the Europa League is not a money spinner. There is the gate income from the home games but even that is pretty low - if you remember our prices were very cheap. The TV rights are a pittance and getting to some of the places who qualify for the Europa is a costly nightmare for the club and the fans. A few places up the league table (at just over £1 million per place) is worth far more.

Thats interesting Lakeland Potter, ta.
So basically the Europa league might mean something to some clubs in Europe who get next to nothing financially in their own leagues but to the Premier League and lets say the German, Spanish, Italian leagues its a joke?
Newcastle finished 5th the other season and then had a hell of a time coping with Thursday night games and weekend Premier league games. They struggled in the Prem. and would have lost millions in current money. As we did a couple of seasons before. I think Stuttgart have suffered the same fate this season. Clubs really need a high quality squad to compete in both a strong domestic league and the Europa league.
Spurs have a decent squad and had an ok run in the Europa league but I guess they could blame not finishing in the top four in the Prem. on Europa commitments. And little financial rewards to boot.
