Chelsea are defensively pretty outstanding but their one weakness (at least defensively) is Azpilicueta. Bolasie and Puncheon gave him the run around yesterday so I think playing Walters would be a bad move. We need Odemwingie's pace to exploit that area of the pitch. I also think our position in the table means we can take a few more chances than we normally would.

As I've said many times in his defence , he is one of the first names on the sheet until we have better options , we now do have better options . Walters should have a seat on the bench for now

He's like your faithful dog really, runs around like a lunatic for a number of years, gradually slowing down.
Jon just needs walking less now.

Walters should have a seat on the bench for now Correct only thing that confuses me is that we have had better options in the past but for some unexplainable reason Walters has been chosen no matter what, let's hope the penny has finally dropped and realisation has dawned say it quietly Walters is not good enough.

If you remember when Walters joined us he spent the first 6 months on the bench . He couldn't break the mama/ Riccy combo , you might argue a case for tuncay . Being a better player than Walters

Disagree entirely. We need to keep the same team. Chelsea are there for the taking, particularly with their huge game midweek. We have to be confident and attack them. I agree that we should keep the same attacking line up an that Walterd should be nowhere near the first team from now on but make no mistake about it,Chelsea aren't there for the taking and to go there and beat them would take some sort of gargantuan effort of biblical proportions Note: Gargantuan has got to be word of the day so far? Mourinho has never lost a home league game with them. But, they looked tired and out of ideas yesterday, they have a massive game midweek and we have high confidence and are on form. They are as close to 'there for the taking' as they have ever been!

I won't argue with you're encyclopaedic memory , my point though Walters was on the bench for at least half of that 1st season and was far from being an automatic selection

How hard is it to grasp the concept that its a squad game, different games present different challenges, different players have different attributes - its a managers job to mix and match these factors and produce what he thinks is the best option for the team to achieve something in any particular game (flying gung-ho at Chelsea for example is probably not the best option).
Thankfully Mark Hughes is a clever bloke and will do exactly this and he is certainly not subject to the rather mindless prejudice that is often on display in threads such as this.

Quite right, you need different players in your team depending on the opposition you're facing. We've just been very lucky whilst JW has been out in that we've faced (almost) the same type of team 3 times in a row and haven't noticed his absence so much, how we haven't conceded a lot more goals due to missing his sterling defensive work I'll never know.

Walters should have a seat on the bench for now What about this Mark Pieters lad they announced yesterday before the game? He was lightning fast, in fact I couldn't make him out for most of the game, he was just a blur and should start every game now ;-) As for SJW, bench at best, we have a decent striking set up now, no reason to change it. Hold on, am I dreaming? Comfortably safe in 10th with two months to go? 8 goals and three straight wins? 14 passes before the third goal at Villa? No, stop messing about, I'm dreaming and will wake up to reality in a minute, this doesn't happen at Stoke!

You're actually in the Army on exercise in deepest darkest Jockland and your 'orrible Sergeant is coming along any minute to kick you out of your pit at 0500 for a 30 mile route march. Have fun.

The best he can hope for is a place on the bench, Unless their are injuries to the forward line.

Were a more attacking threat without Walters,he's a player who all our half chances seem full to an never scores. We now have Odemwingie who puts the graft in an scores goals.Walters on the bench for me.

Walters just needs to stay on the bench until the end of the season then disappear after that!
