Hi,
Will be in Amsterdam for the Chelski / Mighty Potters game - does anyone know any bars or cafes that may show the game?
Cheers

Best head to either Liedseplein (sky sports bar shows ALL Premier league games and plenty of english fans in there)
or Rembrandtplein (Cocos Outbook - aussie sports bar will show most games - sometimes you have to ask at the bar to put your preferred game on)
Cocos is just a nicer bar so I tend to go there for an all dayer with decent grub

Coco's is one option. If you are after a typical Amsterdam locals bar, try Cafe Oporto where a few Dutch Stoke followers get. Fran or Brian will be working on the bar and always try to put the Stoke games on. The address is Zoutsteeg 1. It's a little alleyway off the Damrak, on the right as you walk towards The Dam Square from Centraal Station, just before you reach Dam Square. (Bakkerij De Waal, a bakers, is on the corner).

Just go the bulldog. They show footy in there. Right in the center and next door to a McDonalds (or Burger King) which you'll undoubtedly need.

Good tip that. Every few months I stay at the Hotel Amsterdam - de Roode Leeuw 50 yds away on Damrak so I may pop in there. Thanks.

I was there in May last year and went to O'Reilly's pub. They show a lot of football too and is a very nice pub as most Irish pubs are!

There is a bar off Rembrandtplein that's Australian owned. Since the AFL season has started you might have to ask for the game to be shown on one of their multiple flat screens.
The food is good and the atmosphere friendly. (why wouldn't it be..... he's an Aussie after all) It's worth the time and there is very little effort finding the place.

I can endorse Oporto in Zoutsteeg. Played a lot of darts & watched a lot of football there, great friendly place.

Going on tues with the good lady wife can anyone recommend somewhere for a nice meal and a cheap beer You will do well to find a cheap beer apart from the aforementioned susies saloon which has happy hour between 3 and 5 every weekday. As for food there's some cracking Indonesian places around, have a gander on tripadvisor

Going on tues with the good lady wife can anyone recommend somewhere for a nice meal and a cheap beer There's loads mate, for the nice meal anyaway, cheap beer might take a bit of tracking down tho'. I always try and go for at least one meal per visit in one of the Uruguayan steak houses, you'll find the best places to eat and drink on Trip Advisor. Can't recommend Boom Chicago highly enough for a night's entertainment, they used to do food but not sure they still do after moving location.

I spent 2-3 hours in the afternoon in Cafe Oporto. It was a good bar. Irish bloke behind the bar was a good sort..lots of craic with his regulars. Had a good chat with him about Stoke and Newcastle United. I liked this bar and will be sure to call in again when next I am in town.

I have managed to wangle my transit flights from Bangkok to Kazakhstan to ensure I can get to watch the game on TV on Monday night in Amsterdam. I assume the Premier League Monday night game does not clash with Dutch football and thus will be shown everywhere. So, if that is the case I want a bar that will have commentary turned up (not just a background picture while the barman plays his favourite CD's over the Sound system) and with the commentary in English. I assume this will not be a problem? Any recommendations? Will Cafe Oporto fit the bill? Unfortunately, the only problem for me Is that I am still recovering from surgery and the medication I am on prohibits binge drinking so only allowed 2 bottles max....might try and stretch that to two pints...that might be about 12 glasses of a typical Dutch serving.. On a separate note. I am in need of a good (big) pharmacy in the middle of town. Where can I find the Dutch equivalent of Boots in the centre of Amsterdam? The bigger the better as I am looking for a relatively obscure Dutch product that will not be available at the smaller bog standard places.

I love how lax Amsterdam is. Mushrooms supposedly banned I reckon there's less shops that don't sell them then do though!
But honestly most pubs will have it on, will be easy to find that game... They love their football do the dutch, worth watching some Eredevisie games while you're there too if you can, and the tour around Ajax is worth doing

I was in Madrid and Barcelona with the girlfriend in the Summer and refused to visit either. I have a pathological hatred of giving money to other football clubs especially the big Teams supported by glory hunters. I would never forgive myself if that 20quid I gave to Real Madrid for the tour contributed to them beating us in a Champions League semi final in a few years time.

I've got to be honest that's a pretty silly reason in my opinion The good reason for not going on stadium tours is because you don't give a fuck about the stadium!

If you like spare ribs, you have to go to a place called De Klos. Went earlier this month from a recommendation and it's up there with the top three nicest meals I've ever eaten.

I probably would give a fuck about the stadium (as a structure). I just don't give a fuck about the teams that inhabit the stadium and refuse to contribute to their revenue stream unless I am buying a ticket to watch Stoke play there. I guess I am not a well rounded football fan?

Unfortunately, I am only there for a night. In order of preference I want: A good bar to watch the footy A pharmacy A pair of North Face Nuptse traction mule slippers A good nights kip.
