I've not missed it...I just don't understand it and can't relate to it. If you said that you simply prefer Hughes tactics to Pulisace tactics then I would get that. Pulis never set out not to win games though. That is a lie. It could be argued that up until 'The Shit' at home that Hughes wasn't really interested in winning games....merely keeping the ball even if they meant fucking around with it at the back. I won't though as it would spoil the common ground and ambience. Come on mate...are you honestly saying Pulis never set out to not lose games rather than trying to win ?

The best chance you often have of winning games is not to throw them away in the early parts a game.
If you sometimes have to accept a draw then so be it.
I've seen us lose too many games by doing what I would argue are daft things - especially away from home.

If that's all that matters then just buy a Sunday paper mate Me .....I'm enjoying the entertainment and enjoying watching us trying to win games Are you telling me that you enjoyed Liverpool at home as much as the trio of games v Manu, Arsenal and WHU? The winning is what counts. I thought we played fantastically well that day hugely unfortunate

One good game means as little as one bad game, the proof in the pudding is where we finish. If that's all that matters then just buy a Sunday paper mate Me .....I'm enjoying the entertainment and enjoying watching us trying to win games That's not what I'm saying though, fantastic performances against West Ham, Manchester United and Chelsea have been combined with frankly scandalous performances against Crystal Palace, Spurs and Norwich. In those latter games our football has been as aimless as it was under Tony. Hughes has done a good job and got the team playing a nice style, but the OP's evaluation of his success is excessive to say the least. There is still work to be done.

I think people will comment on the Villa game as a one off and even if we have a shocker then we can be content with where we are in the league and that it was a blip within the context of the last 7/8 games. Hughes has earned himself plenty of space. What has changed over the last few games is expectation based on consistent performances rather than hope. If we had what has been repeated over the last few games then I'd be pleased as punch...doesn't require too much progress for my money.

Was there a thread on here like this one at this time last season that read "Plaudits for Pulis" ? Considering we are no better off now than at this period last season. I was just wondering if everybody was coming on here and saying what a fantastic job Pulis was doing ?

So, find us the thread and we can all wonder at our naivety! If there is one thing worse than a wankstain...then it has to be a rimmer turned wankstain. You are entitled to your opinion, Merkin. But my post wasn't attacking Pulis - who I still think did a great job at Stoke and I recognise we would not be where we are today without him. But I do think that the second half of last season was his worst period, in terms of results and performances, since promotion. So threads praising him for our situation at the time were hardly flavour of the month, were they? We had about the same number of points but, whilst last season our position was in steep decline, this season the situation is very different with 12 points from the last 7 games. I'm looking up the table at the moment and this time last season I was looking down nervously. Apart from a very few posters (of whom Mr nononsense is clearly one) you'd have to work very hard to find Stokies who are not happier about the club at this moment, than they were at the same time last season.

You won't win a game by parking the bus for 90 minutes. Pulis did set out to not lose certain games, but there's nothing wrong with that as long as you still include at least one attacking outlet.

Hughes has spent very little in comparison to his predecessor and done a very decent job in the process.
I'd imagine we'd have heard ramblings about "front of house, Nige" had Tone had to work on a similar budget.

Like the nonsense bloke says, point for point, there is little to call between it. Pulis could improve with more backing? Have you seen some of the crap he signed? Palacios, Edu, Gun slinging ladyboy yank, etc. Pulis never evolved in the last two years which is why it was time for him to go. Hughes has since brought in decent players for almost nothing and shifted out some deadwood in the process. I would wager that as perception of our style changes, that we (as a club) will be able to attract better players that wouldn't have given us a second glance under Pulis. Saying that, Pulis did a fantastic job overall and I'm grateful that we had him as a manager.

Nonsense isn't clearly one at all. All he wants to know is why people are going overboard now when the points totals are barely different.
I agree with the general feeling that things are much better now but there were good reasons for that - some Pulis' fault, some not.
I'm not going to allow certain posters to whitewash the 'Pulis had lost the plot by then' principle that the wankstains would have us believe though...I'll keep fighting his corner on that one rather than appear to belittle the bloke with smug comments and rolling laughter.

Its not a miracle but Mark Hughes is doing a very good job for us so far. Players play on merit, invariably play in their right positions, Walters aside, and no game is ever lost before we have even kicked a ball. We've been poor at times for sure and that will always be the case in all liklihood but we have generally played well, even away, and should have more points than we have. I wanted Mark Hughes way before he ever became our manager, wanted him when it was clear our previous manager would be leaving and wanted him when he arrived. Thankfully, SO FAR, I think I was right on this particular matter. He is doing a very good job and given time and a bit of financial backing, he will do an even better job than he's doing now. Spot on. Hughes was always the right man for those who know football. Plus he wears a smart suit. That's how a manager should dress!

To be fair to myself, I haven't applauded Hughes yet. A few good results doesn't make a good season and there's still time for it to go pear-shaped. I will reserve judgement for a little while yet.
Though I am definitely more optimistic going into games than I was last season.

Last season saw us literally blow the Jan transfer window and the ill feeling probably cost Pulis his job and a similar points total. Despite the claims that Pulis brought a load of wank, much of this season's heavy lifting has been achieved by players that Pulis brought to the club. Yes, he wasted money (all managers do) but he bought plenty of good players to the club too. I'm as pleased as the next fan after Saturday for the reasons I've given but if anyone thinks it's a given that it is going to get easier as Hughes brings in his own players then I think they may have well jumped the gun. Saturday was the first game where players that Hughes had signed really came to the party.

Pulis did bring good players to the club but he wasn't getting much of a tune out of them by the end. Even with blowing the transfer window, he still had the same bunch who'd managed 29 points before Christmas so why couldn't he do anything with that lot? The season before saw us win four games after New Year and had us as the lowest scorers in the pyramid despite a pre-season that saw £14m worth of strikers added. It was also our lowest Prem placing to date.
