The boy turns round to me and says.." Dad can I watch Teenage mutant ninja turtles?"
"Aye if you want " was the reply….10 mins later it was "can I switch it over and watch monsters versus aliens?"
"If you want son" was the reply
I lifted me head from my book and noticed the fighting that goes on in these cartoon programmes….unreal!
Bring back Chigley or Trumpotn I say…….

My daughter like violent movies, especially the cartoon-style violence in Diehard type thrillers. She doesn't have a violent bone in her body, however, and hasn't grown up sick and twisted. She's a budding opera singer FFS!
So I'm pretty relaxed about it. I think it's the rest of the package, family environment, upbringing, morality that's important. If those things are right, watching cartoon violence is just a bit if fun, not educating them to be violent.

Fair comments there…I was just surprised that after watching it for 5 minutes the amount of fighting involved…...

Heres a bit of useless trivia for you all.... The girl who waves at Ed Straker at 12 seconds in is Ayshea Brough who had a hit single in the 70's. The song was written by Roy Wood of The Move,Wizzard fame who she apparently was 'freinds' with. A fountain of knowledge is this Oatcake site

I havn't thoroughly researched the subject, but have a feeling that The Magic Roundabout, The Herb Garden, The Clangers, Fingerbobs, Crystal Tips & Alistair, Rhubarb & Custard, Scooby Do and The Moomins had a profound impact. I don't think I'll ever recover from my weekly dose of The Pipkins. Hartley Hare was sinister, {not a cartoon I know, it was real.}.

I suppose to like the Gerry Anderson things like Thunderbirds , Stingray, Captain Scarlet etc. you had to be of a certain age ......us old 'uns loved them , but I can understand why kids from later generations were not as enthused about them as we were .....t.v. everything moves on , even kids tv

I'm surprised they don't make cowboy films where the Indians arrows have rubber suckers on them, most maad arsed generation in history, yet the violence has increased not decreased. Lesson to be learned I think if kids don't see violence they never learn about it's consequences it all becomes a game right up until someone is hurt and it's too late. Girls are worse than the boys now because they are allowed to get away with it more than the boys do.

Big fan of the 'mouse organ' and Gabriel the acoustic toad. Thanks for the heads up re: UFO, never seen it, never heard of it. Though strangely had a toy 'Interceptor' as a kid. I never had a context for it so buzzed Formula One Corgi's with it's rocket launcher. I watched the first episode on Youtube last night. I missed out on that as a kid. The Barry Gray soundtrack is ace and Gabrielle Drake is more folk music than her brother. I like the Simpsons, was disappointed at Viz's attempts to go animated, this is rayt up there for me... {And I've only really come across this in latter times.}
