Mental.
He really does advocate allowing the opposition to have the ball. Very hard to watch at times but often incredibly effective.
Not many Palarse fans complaining at the moment though.

One of the many things that irritated me. I'm a Stoke fan, therefore I want to watch Stoke play. I'm really not that interested in watching Stoke watch the other team play.

Shots conceded is surprising. Most of those stats are a little surprising (albeit, acknowledged that TP's tenure is relatively short to base things on currently). However, given Olly's status as a so called born again Tika-Taka enthusiast, it's surprising that his team was only enjoying circa 7% more possession, and 3.7% less long balls. The truth probably lies somewhere in the fact that TP's 'robust' method (widely discussed on this board - so no need to go into them any further here) has probably been slightly exaggerated to the extent it has become a caricature of itself; as is this idea that the reformed Olly's metronomic passing game is quite as it has been played out by various people including the press. Would not want either as manager here. Great respect for TP, etc. as manager and a man. but we've moved on.

That is up to you ely.
I just want us to employ tactics that gives us the best chance of picking up points.
Not really Colonel....Pulis never minded shots going in as long as they were from distance.

I know it's up to me, hence my standpoint on the matter over the last 10 years or so. As we're now finding out, it didn't have to be that way.

That is not strictly true though is it ely.
Go back 2 games and there were exceptionally concerned people that we wouldn't make 40 points - didn't we have 22 from 23 games? That would barely get us to 36 points.
Only now that we have changed tactics have we pulled away a bit and we are not exactly out of the woods yet.
While you may have been consistent, following what you wanted was hardly guarenteed to put Stoke City in the best position. While we were running at less than a point a game, Pulis got 19 points from 13 games and Poyet got 24 from 18 games - both significantly better than what we were doing.
Still, as long as you were getting what you wanted then fuck our survival in this league.

Only now that we have changed tactics This is true. The new direction is starting to pay dividends. It was always going to take time. Some fans just aren't patient enough.

It didn't have to be 'what way'?
We've won 6 games out of 25.
What way are you talking about?

Some are - I was told directly that "it's not pretty to watch" and "it's predictable and boring" and "a bit negative". What this chap did say was it's ok because it's working and if we stay in the PL then ends would justify the means. The trouble is that it will wear off. Money will be spent and promises of 3 year plans will be made but there will be no change in the football. Not sure Londoners will put up with it for as long as us.

If it is staying in the prem after getting promoted then yes. If we are talking about winning nothing, failing with the 3 and 5 year plan and eventually retrograding back to a poor team then no. I am also acutely aware it hasn't been much better under Hughes until lately , however he's not even had a season yet, nor has he been given the same backing. H

At this moment in time, the Palace fans will be chuffed to feck, and of course will be delighted if they stay up. But come next season, when they are sitting about 11th to 15th. having to watch Pulis type football week in week out,I wonder how chuffed they will be then?

Quite possible but I guess, if you asked them now, they'd happily take five seasons of consecutive PL seasons if they were offered it now. Even if they had to put up with a certain amount of crap.

If PHWs really want to claim that the last 2 performances are the evolution of the entire season rather than just a distinct change - which I believe one of the players even hinted at - then be my guest.
I think you are 100% fucking wrong though.

The telling stats not shown in that graphic can be found in about 2 minutes research.
When Holloaway left Palace, they had played 11 and were bottom with 4 points and a goal difference of -15.
Today they have played 25, and are 15th with 26 points and a goal difference of -16.
So TP went into a club rock bottom and looking certainties to stay that way and has overseen a run of 14 games, winning 22 points with a -1 goal difference, moving them 6 places up the league.
A fair achievement for a tactical dinosaur.

okey One of those wins was just him scratching himself in the stand at Hull while that caretaker manager took control.

They were 19th with 7 points and 3 points from safety when he took charge of his first game.

I was a PHW (I guess) but I don't think he's doomed to repeat the mistakes that led to his departure from Stoke. Like anybody else in this world he will look to learn from his mistakes and I'm sure his dismissal hit him like a ton of bricks. I know he has a certain way he wants to play and that won't change but he might decide that he needs a bit more dimension over time or that he needs to rotate the squad a bit more. Granted he might not. I just don't think you can look at his time here and assume his time at Palace will follow the same arc. I wish him great success there (as long as that success isn't at the expense of Stoke).

Knowing Pulis as we do, he will be taking credit for that first victory due to his Uri Gellaresque mind powers from the stands.

mcf and pricey,
You will notice that I worded that carefully. "When Hollaway left Palace..."
Your observations about the Hull game are true. It doesn't alter the accuracy of the "statistics" though. Does viewing from the stands qualify as "overseeing"?
It also illustrates the point that you can find statistics to justify almost any opinion.
I'm reminded of the former Aberdeen manager, Ebbe Skovdahl who once noted that "statistics are just like mini-skirts, they give you good ideas but hide the most important thing".

As I've said before, tony is no longer with us, what's done is done. In my opinion he made a few mistakes in the purchasing department and that ultimately led to his downfall. I don't for a minute think the fans opinions affected the board's decision at all. MH is our manager now and as fans we should forget the past and get behind him and the team and see what they can do. Not that I'm not grateful to TP for what he did for us... It's simply time to move on!

Here's a statistic for you okeydokey...90% of Stoke fans fell asleep whilst watching a game at the Brit last season. This season it has only been 89%. Stick that in your pipe and hoof it.
