Hughes has been given a good budget hasn't he? 3m for pieters 2m+ for arnie pennant 2 loan players that would have cost a bit munny made a 5-6m bid for a forward in the summer, making 4-5m bid today guidetti odemwinge yep, its less but still reasonable based. why would he want pace anyway? he loaned the one forward that we had with pace to Palace? it would be a reasonable budget if he had his own team in place, but to put in place his own team? Lets not forget there were so many positions that HAD to be filled. He simply had to get a leftback for starters and two wingers were also a must. It wasn't like he came in to a team with two players in every position and could look at where he wanted to improve, most of his budget has gone on positions that had to be filled, LB, RW, LW. As for getting shot of Jerome when he did, i thought it was madness he didn't get more game time last year, and i thought it was beyond belief that hughes let him go without getting pace into the attack.

he didn't have to get a left back - he had Wilson that was part of a defence that let only 45 goals in last year. Munny looks a complete waste as he is neither good enough for left back or centre half it seems on the basis that he isn't being picked. Pieters no better than wilson.
Two wingers agreed. Not sure on the 2 we have but lets see how it goes. He barely gave Pennant a go though (very surprising after that goal at West Ham)
You agree with the fuck up on Jerome and I thought he should have played more last year too. For all the moaning about Crouch he pretty much decided to play him instead of say Arnie.
...Ireland has come in, who I like...but then hardly played. I'd find room for him and Adam btw.
good that we have 2 forwards now for jerome and jones so we will see how that plays out.
I just find the whole policy a little bizarre and wayward - certainly not lacking in numbers but not particuarly targetted IMHO.

Agree with most of that mate, well ,except for the Wilson/Pieters issue, find it hard to believe that Pieters would have looked just as effective in a team as negative as we were last years, and similarly that Wilson wouldn't look just as exposed as Pieters does in this set up. I do think he had to get a left back, for all wilson did a job for us at LB, if it was always his intention to push the full backs further forward then he needed a natural, left footed, left back.

we let 45 goals in all of last season and i think we have already let in 37 so far this. not keeping enough clean sheets is costing us Nobody is arguing that mate ........I'm just saying that he did not leave a good defense It was ripped to shreds countless times last season This season is no different

it wasn't for crying out loud.
the villa and chelsea home games didn't sum up the entire season.
we only lost 5 home games last year and picked up points in more away games than where we didn't.
I think you are losing a bit of perspective.
I can live with the fact that some games were boring, predictable, mundane etc but I don't agree with the notion that we were ripped to shreds.

Read it yesterday. Disagree with most of it. Dont' see how Adam can play in a 442 as it means putting literally all of the defensive side of things in the middle on one player. How are you going to press Man Utd (who are still one of the best teams in the league) high up the pitch if you've surrendered the battle in midfield from the get-go? My problem with the 'identity' stuff is that for me, rather than stripping the team of its identity Hughes has hugely failed to address the majority of the problems he inherited and added a couple of his own. Well we don't press anyone high up the pitch with our current formation, but get this, when we used to play a genuine 4-4-2, (not the limp dicked one winger/one coverted full back or striker bollocks we saw in the last two yers) well then we used to get in peoples faces quite comfortably. All this bollocks about us getting slaughtered playing 4-4-2, whereas we are supposedly controlling the midfield with 4-5-1 (4-3-3), what are we controlling exactly? We're controlling our own half of the pitch, sporadically, thats about it, it's giving us absolutely nothing in terms of positive possession in the opponents half. 4-4-2 with arnie, assaid, odemwingie and crouch/guidetti we would offer a threat in behind, have a target man to hold it up and a platform to get 3 men into the box instead of the current 1 or 2. Just because we're not doing it with this formation doesn't mean 442 is automatically a better bet. When did we used to play a genuine 442? Not for the best part of 10 years when Boskamp was here as far as I can remember?

Not just Chelsea and Villa but Swansea, Man Utd, Wigan, Spurs all showed that as well.
