Vale are part of our past. The natural order has been restored and Stoke City are again the dominant nogger force in SOT.
Thats their last spell in front of us for eighty years!

Well me clocks right now, thanks for telling me about that Smudge, Im not used to dealing with American forums who's natural time is set 5 hours behind ours. Yes I made a mistake, I admit it, where's your admission to your mistake then? (I've learned a lot about the art of windups of rival fans from your good friend MCF)

My mistakes? Okay, I own up to making abad mistake in wishing Vale all the best when they went into administration. I got to see how it was wasted on some Vale fans when our financial report came out not long afterwards and many Vale fans were jubilant that we might be going out of business. Actually felt a bit of a dufus myself there, for forgetting how much oyu guys really, really hate us and wish us ill! Anyway, going out now to watch me lad play against Longton Harriers.... probably speak to yers later!

Actually Im probably one of the few Vale fans who never join in with If you hate Stoke city clap your hands.. or the infamous We all p1ss in a red and white hat. Believe it or not, I don't hate Stoke, never have and never will. In my days as a child I even used to support them (had pictures of Jimmy Greenhoff all over my bedroom wall) I grew out of it and saw sense mind you

Yes, 1valefanofmany, life has just been one long run of success and memories of great achievements since you took Jimmy's photos down off the wall hasn't it? Ok, we haven't had much to shout about since Jimmy (and Waddo) left either. However, as a supporter for about 50 years I have to say that this season has given me more optimism (well founded I think) than any other for the past couple of decades. I take my hat off to the majority of Vale fans - life and luck have not treated you well either and as a Stokie who, at school, used to go to Vale Park once for each three visits he paid to Stoke, I would be gutted for you if it all went tits up. But you have a long hard road to travel and you will need luck to survive. Perhaps if some of your fans (not the majority) spent more time looking at ways to solve your own problems and less worrying about your bigger neighbours down the road, the future might be brighter.

I agree fornside, many Vale fans spend far too much time during each game slagging off Stoke instead of getting behind their own team. Whilst I don't think that Stoke would survive in the Premiership, even if by any miracle they ever made it up. I would rather we joined you in div 1 next year rather than see you come down to join us. We're all from the same city, and love the same game. We're in a poor area and both have poorer support than we could expect were we in a more affluent city, but we both keep struggling along (although we do tend to face more struggles than you). Keep the faith but excuse me for saying: Up the Vale !

To be honest surviving in the Premiership would not be the sole concern for most of our fans nor our board. As is often pointed out by the commentry team at the playoff final - that game is worth a minumum of £27 million to the winners in fees for a season in the Premiership and parachute payments for the following years if relegated.
So even relegateion after one season would transform the finances of our club - providing we gave the players sensible contracts which provided for a drop in pay to Div 1 standards in the event of relegation. The prospect of being debt free for the first time in many years and the chance to buy the rest of the stadium (at a realistic value) is a prize worth fighting for even if it means a season of embarrassment on the pitch. In this sense it would be very different to our holocaust season when we came down from the top flight with a record low total of points.

We'd benefit massively if we set the financial scale based on the worst case scenario and didn't do a Bradford and spend stupidly.
WBA would be a good example to follow.

Returning to the original subject, I nearly choked on my Murry Mint when I heard it! ;D I would have thought Martin Foyle had been around the game long enough to realise that it is usual to use euphemisms when describing the referee as the FA don't take too kindly to accusations of their officials being "dishonest". Can't see why. I think Foyle's post match interviews could turn out to be a lot more interesting than it was never a penalty Horton. Oops! I see that he did learn well from his master! ;D Looking into my crystal ball, I see Mr Foyle , wearing a suit, going on a long trip to a place full of doddery old gits drinking G & T. Maybe there could be an opportunity for Smudge to have a regular feature on the sayings of Foyle?
