Just opened, an actual, new, proper record shop! Down the bottom end of the Strand near the market.
New and second-hand vinyl and CDs. Well-considered ordering policy by the looks of things, nice chaps and keen to help. Good luck to em.

Who on here still has a record player that they use? Not me but my Dad, aged 90, still has the red and cream Dansett Record Player he bought in the 60s. You can stack 10 singles or 4 LPs on it. I get the needles for him off eBay.

Any idea if the shop ever gets obscure CD's in? Or whether they can somehow order them in? I assume with CD's it's one's from all decades. Just thinking of rare EP's or Promo CD's that i'd like

Yeah they'll help you out Chig. It's a proper record shop - quality independents and 'classic' second hand stock. Find em on FB or Twitter and have a chat (or pop in - they're dead friendly!)

I'll have a gander at the FB page now. May pay a visit during the week Quick Edit : Just incase you have an idea yourself. I like most genres. Was looking for The Slim Shady EP, any avenged sevenfold promo and no control by BR. I'll pm them but if you know if they can ever stock them, I'll be most greatful

When I was a boy I used to buy my records off Lonnie. He would always order stuff in for me too. Somedays, he used to wear an amazing necklace with a beautiful big coloured butterfly encased in a crystal clear polished perspex square, the size of a beermat. He was larger than life.
If you decided to buy a record, you took the empty artwork sleeve to the counter and Lonnie would pull the record itself, in the white inner dust sleeve, from the shelves behind him. He'd then take the vinyl out and use his finger like a spindle and spin the record with his eyes level with the edge, like the Harlem Globetrotters did with a basketball. He did it so gracefully and in one fluid movement. He did care, but more than anything it was just Lonnie being Lonnie. He's a natural born showman.
As a young teenager me and my pals always tried to get to as many gigs at The Viccy Hall that we could. We'd walk from Penkhull to Hanley and back to Penkhull. We could never afford to buy tickets though, unless it was a must see band. We simply waited outside in the freezing cold and pestered the roadies who would, after saying "no chance" a dozen times, eventually cave in and let us in, usually just as the support act kicked in. We never failed! Once inside, I would always look up from the ground floor to see Lonnie sitting smack bang in the middle of the first floor balcony, right over the clock, it was like he was holding court and he never missed a gig. The Viccy really is a superb venue and easily my favourite.
Although I really don't know Lonnie that well, he always remembers that 12 year old kid who was buying those Pink Floyd albums. Great character and very much his own man.
Does he still walk up and down Hartshill Bank? I haven't seen him for years now.

Morning ************** up early this morning .....noodles for breakfast again mate ? Morning Bish. We usually fetch a couple of ham and cheese toasties from the 7-11 to nibble on with our mug of Nescafé. But it's piddling down (rainy season here is Oct/Nov) so I'll try to make it through to lunchtime. Don't really go for noodles much unless they're in a tasty Thai clear broth, to be honest with you fella. Have your travels ever taken you to this part of the world mate?

Meeeeeeeee, although not as much as I want to, sometimes its just to much effort changing over 45s every few mins, kinda gets in the way of other things We had a bit of a do last Satdee night. A couple of twenty somethings were admiring my (rubbish, cheapo) turntable and boxes of (dusty) LPs. (All of which are recorded and were avaialble on the iTunes Player ... but oh no, that's just not as trendy as analogue ... And to be fair, the pair of them were wrecked ...) "These are brilliant!" slurred one, as I cued and dropped a second tune for him. "Oh yeah", I said, "You try cueing and dropping on a turntable a couple of metres from the girl wearing the other leg-hole of a pair of knickers you've got twisted around your thumb!" Shuffle on an iPod ... it must surely be the sole reason for the increase in birth-rates!?

The Strand Records were very helpful in my request. No control would be £11, A7x promo CD's £13 and the Slim Shady EP £500! Not surprised saying only 500 were made.

I'm going to have to big up Cannonball Records after going down there today, the owner (I think his name is Dave, apologies if I'm wrong), was clearing out the shed/outhouse/room next to his shop and although not being open today, kindly opened up his shop for us and also searched out the particular boxes of music we wanted for us to look through, as well as this he also gave us a couple of perfectly good record boxes that he was throwing out and all they needed was a bit of a clean up, winner all round .

Cannonball's great, especially for 60s/70s rock. He's also got a nice line in new, heavy-pressing psychedelic imports from Japan and Israel and all points in between.
Can't go without mentioning Rubber Soul in Stoke. Mightily impressive stock but, Christ, I wish he'd have a sort out so you can get into the shop and actually breathe out.
