It's not as black and white as that rob. MH is able to benefit from the money spent by Tone, isn't he? The main positive legacy are the defence, and they cost a fraction of the total outlay over the last 5 years. In terms of midfield and attack, MH hasn't really been left with a wealth of talent or options. In addition after blowing the family silver on players to suit his system, we are now left with the family seeming to pull in the reigns whilst wanting an improvement in style....

Your first sentence is fair enough, but just saying Hughes as the benefit of some good signings by Tone. You are not suggesting are you that MH would have a better chance of success without the £85m spend? The Family might be more inclined to back Hughes if they hadn't seen the previous manager blow their money on Wilson Palacios, Peter Crouch and a number of other dubious but highly expensive deals.

MrMagic,
Are you saying Adam, Nzonzi, Crouch, Jones, Walters, Etherington, Palacios, Pennant, can't adapt to a new style of play?

To be fair the rimmers have treated the wankstains with kid gloves so far. Had Mr Pulis delivered 4 goals in a quarter of a season the wankstains would be shouting for his cock and balls to be cut off and placed in a display cabinet in the Waddington suite. As it is the rimmers have done little more than raise an eyebrow in a 'I hope this new fella knows what he is doing?' kind of a way. I'll see what I want to see. I'll hear what I want to hear. The facts can just fuck right off. (PS I freely acknowledge this could equally apply to a poster or two on the other side of the fence....)

MrMagic, Are you saying Adam, Nzonzi, Crouch, Jones, Walters, Etherington, Palacios, Pennant, can't adapt to a new style of play? Adam - will suit Hughes more than he did tony Crouch - no pace and on the slide so not a good buy and unlikely to deliver for us Nzonzi - a strange one, bags of potential shit attitude. A very un-Pulis signing that's always baffled me. Jones - think he might do but inconsistent beyond belief Walters - only attribute is hard work. Don't see where he really fits going forward Ethers - best days gone. Definitely could adapt but his loss of pace limits him Palacios - who really knows? Pennant - yes probably

My position MrMagic is that Tone has left a reasonable squad that didn't cost a fortune, by PL standards.
A mid table position looks to be achievable, but let's stop blaming Pulis for every little setback that occurs this season.

Some good players but even then he needs time to get his methods across and in attacking terms he really hasn't been left with a whole lot.

Do you really think Hughes is working in the same circumstances as Pulis on that front?

Do you really think Hughes is working in the same circumstances as Pulis on that front? Maybe because when we came up we were miles behind any other team in the Prem with regard to quality and standard of player. Pulis had to get players in that would make the grade in the Prem. We now have SOME players that are Prem standard and therefore only need to replace certain players and not buy wholesale. It's OK people saying that Pulis spent 100m but look at what other teams have spent. The difference is that these other teams have spent it over a longer period of time because they have been in the Prem longer. I am not saying that all Pulis' signings were good ones but he didn't do as badly as some would like to have you believe either. In some respects I think the club were shocked to find themselves in the Prem when we got there because lets face it we were not a team of world beaters were we?

Swansea have achieved more on a fraction of what we spent. West Brom haven't spent anywhere near as much. It was great for a while but we pissed away so much on so little in the past couple of years that the club saw it as unsustainable. Let's not pretend Hughes has the blank chequebook Pulis had.

The amount of money is the unknown part and it looks to be lower than we've previously chucked about.

I've been thinking about this and is TP the right man for the job?
Short term, he most definitely is, there's no question that he is. But should Palace sacrifice what they've built (their academy and policy for young players) for the sake of staying up in the Premier League? And I think it's a genuine quandary that the Palace chairman will go through. In the end I think I'd appoint him but only until the end of this season.

Utter tosh Geoff. I do agree about the stop blaming Pulis for everything Geoff, but the club made a big mistake allowing him to spend so much without it taking us forward in the last two seasons, and another mistake in bringing in a new manager and expecting him to change our style with far less backing.

If Hughes had been allowed to spend £20m plus in the summer without recouping from player sales I'm sure we'd have a different forward line than the one we have now Stafford.

MrMagic,
I've spent most of the night watching Stoke on Sky and just on the BBC.
After such a great performance it seems the wrong time to mention Pulis again, but I will.
The majority of players in the team today were Pulis signings and they were brilliant.
I just hope we never hear the word dross being applied to this squad again.
Stoke were strong all over the pitch, this is a squad MH can get results with, and £85m in terms of the PL is not a huge amount.

I thought it was 3rd highest spenders over the last 5 years? Could be wrong, either way he wasted a shit load of money. So to assert that "Tone has left a reasonable squad that didn't cost a fortune, by PL standards" is just geoff being his usual 'make shit up and hope I get a bite' self.

So are you saying that Tonys attitude towards certain games in his tactics etc etc was his downfall as with largely the same squad he showed no desire to win away especially at the likes of old Trafford My opinion is that mark Hughes has shown more attacking intent away from home in his 5 games than pulis did in his time in the prem

It's clearly not a no brainer because it's a thought process the Palace chairman is having. The Palace academy is the best thing about that club, employing someone like TP could kill it and they seem quite comfortable with not staying up and sticking with their core values. Hiring TP would go against them and they seem to know it from the discussions I've seen and heard. Pulis is their best option in the short term I agree but if they don't stay up, I wouldn't stick with him. And if they did, I'd be tempted to get someone in who can build on the values of the club for the long term.

Geoffrey re-writing history to suit his non-Stoke supporting agenda I see. Under Pulis we were the biggest spenders from our bracket of clubs by miles. It's only this season that our peer clubs (Soton, Norwich, WBA) have outspent us, thanks to the new Sky money. It's thanks to TP's profligacy that MH does not have his predecessor's riches to spend. Quite why The Family expected a change in style at the same time as they reduced the budget is a bit of a puzzler.

I saw palace chairman interviewed yesterday and they are looking for a young manager with a connection to the club, they may consult Neil Warnock about the candidates too.

It's pretty fucking obvious Walters and Etherington aren't up to it and can't adapt. They've been even worse than their usual dour standards this season. The more I see Adam the more I think he isn't up to it.

I know people are sick to death with the word Pulis but I actually believe HE'S A CERT for this job. I'll have a million pounds that he won't be in for this job. Lack of bottle. Amazing what a few £££'s can do eh! Do you owe Mutts a million pounds now? You could almost buy your own Pulis for that
