So who's the guy who froze my account for a week for responding to this guy for bashing my country? I see a number of others had a problem with it to. So whoever froze my account has no problem with someone taking cheap shots at someone else's country, looking to invoke a reaction, knowing damn well there's a number of Americans posting here due to Stoke bringing more and more Americans in, yet you freeze my account for responding with the same language I see all over this forum? Who did it and who do I talk to? Whoever did it didn't even notify me or give me an explanation. I'd love an explanation as to why my account was frozen and think it's pretty disrespectful not only towards American fans here but the American players as well in Stoke's squad that insulting our country is encouraged. Like this? - Fuck off Yea that works. Just make sure you do something like this. Stoke Fan "I bought a ticket to a Stoke match. While at the game I noticed a player looked awful. His form was terrible and he looked so bad I question if he will ever play for Stoke." Reply "F### YOU!! You know nothing. How dare you pay to attend a Stoke Match and make a negative comment about player I liked based on his performance. F$$$ YOU moron, someone twitted otherwise you idiot. These tweets prove your a waste of life and know nothing about football."

Frumpy for real don't tell people to f#ck off, and if you do tell someone to f#ck off attempt to make it look witty. Fuc* off is more a UK term. We don't use it nearly as much. Look how many footballers use it during matches. Look how much it's used on this board and other UK boards. Can't take offense when I'm talking like the locals.

I'm sure Shea looked awful, he has been piss poor for quite some time.
I watch a fair deal of MLS, I was born, raised, and live in the US, and I've followed MLS since it began in 1995. Shea was a great young player towards the end of 2010 and throughout the 2011 MLS season. He could basically outrun and out-muscle any fullback he went up against. However, he never showed great technique. In 2012 though he fell apart, he struggled big time, this is WAY BEFORE Pulis brought him over and before he was injured. I have yet to see him look good since. I have watched every USMNT game since 1994, and have seen every Shea appearance. He has looked good in a couple friendlies, but never against another country's top players. In fact, I don't believe he has ever featured in a REAL competitive match for the USMNT (the 2013 Gold Cup was the closest thing, but all the North American teams that are trying to qualify for the World Cup treat it as a chance to get a look at fringe players.) The sad truth is that since 2012 Shea has been poor with only one exception, his substitute appearance against Costa Rica in the Gold Cup when Landon Donovan found him with a well-hit very early cross and he managed beat the Ticos keeper on a breakaway with a strong enough shot that hit the keeper's hands and still went in. He "scored" the game winner against Panama as well, but I'm pretty sure Alejandro Bedoya's cross was already on it's way in. Against Philadelphia Shea looked good for us, but that was against Philadelphia's reserve players. The idiot who injured him has only made 6 appearances in his three year MLS career, and for teams that have sucked.
Shea is not good enough for the EPL, I wish he was, but he isn't. After he spends his time here not even making the bench he will go back to the MLS and flame out there too. I'm afraid he is already broken, and a waste of 2.5 million pounds.

You sound like that other guy who came here only to talk about Shea and his hair. The kid is 23, and Klinsmann is very high on him. Will he pan out? That's what you pay money to find out. But he's got a lot of talent, no one disagrees with that. I think he might surprise a few folks. With Arnautovic on the right and Assaidi, Shea and Etherington fighting it out on the left, I think we're going to be in great shape out wide.

I don't want to sound like a troll, but anyone that watches the USMNT with an open mind will have the same opinion about Shea. That's the sad thing, you have to watch the games on your own because no American soccer writer will bash a MLS player or a hyped player like Shea. The media also currently does this will Graham Zusi, Beckerman, and Brad Evans. Ever game you notice they are not on par with their EPL/Bundesliga counterparts, but every article written about the game has them playing amazing games. "Klinsmann is very high on him." Klinnsmann begged Shea not to take the transfer to Stoke. Klinnsmann knew Shea would struggle for playing time. I don't feel it's trolling to point facts that most Americans refuse to believe. It's an insult to the sport to do otherwise.

Well, what is it -- the media or Klinsmann? Or is the media just reporting what Klinsmann thinks?
Klinsmann has used Shea sparingly, in specific attacking situations. Shea generally has looked dangerous. He is going to be asked to do a lot more by Stoke. You can look at that negatively and say he has never been asked to do that or you can look at it positively and say he might have a shot at developing to be more of an all around player -- in the MLS he was asked to be an offensive threat.
I have no issue with someone saying that Shea has not developed the tools to be successful in this league but to make this about the media is silly.

I have no issue with someone saying that Shea has not developed the tools to be successful in this league but to make this about the media is silly. ???? Klinsmann is in on it with the media. Klinnsmann and the MLS wanted Shea to stay in the MLS and thrive, with Klinnsmann playing Shea with the USA A squad; Shea could be sold as A squad caliber player (EPL/Bundesliga). The MLS could pretend Shea was EPL caliber superstar and market him as one. Klinnsmann calling up Wenger to have Shea train with Arsenal was the finishing touch to the hype job. Shea messed the whole operation up by taking the loan to Stoke. Can't blame Shea for wanting the move, but he should have listened to Klinnsman. It's embarrassing to even write this but it's true and obvious to anyone that watched all the USMNT games. If you think I'm crazy or have some grudge against Shea, just think back to Freddy Adu. The US soccer media hyped a 13 year-old as the savior to American soccer. US Soccer/MLS are financially poor and this leads them to do these crazy marking hype campaigns. I really don't mind them trying to make money, but they took this Shea thing too far and convinced way too many people he was something he was not.

I wholly trust LMH and if Shea is in the squad he deserves to be there and is obviously in his plans going forward. Give him a chance to prove his quality at the very least...

Interesting discussion for the most part (except the xenophobic bits) . . . I've thought that Shea was a good bet and still think that he'll turn out well. But Deadly and From make good points. I too remember when Edu "burst on the scene" over here and was hailed as the next best thing to Pele. And we can see where that went. So maybe you can apply the same dynamic to Shea. Let's at least agree that the jury is still out.

I can't make a judgment about your general mental state, but you sound nutty with your statements about the media and marketing and Klinsman "being in on it". I guess the media and other leagues are all honest as they day is long but Shea is some odd special exception. Oh and Adu.

Frumps,
To be honest there were a few of us Yanks on here way before any USA "full internationals" ever kicked a ball in anger for SCFC, and most of us will still be hooked on Stoke long after Brek Shea and Juan make their big money moves to Real Madrid. Dont let the trollers on here get under your skin unless they disrespect Tuncay or Chalie Adam(s)!

I too remember when Edu "burst on the scene" over here and was hailed as the next best thing to Pele. Wasn't Freddy Adu supposed to be the next Pele? Point still applies... Just not to one of ours. Freddy was a 13 year old Ghanian kid who declined an offer from Man U academy for American citizenship and a 6 figure MLS contract. Sad thing is last time I watched Freddy play for the US he has the best skill set on the field. (Gold Cup that got Bob Bradley fired) Freddy is currently struggling in Brazil's top flight. The US soccer media/MLS should be mocked for hyping a 13 year old, not Freddy. The MLS has never been profitable, so that leads to crowning 13 years olds, or hyping MLS stars as EPL players that choose to play in America. With Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, ect MLS might be breaking even. Seattle as has to make money, but without huge national TV contracts the league overall still struggles.
