First post on here after years away and not a happy one. My Dad, Howard Parton, passed away on 2nd August following complications removing a cancerous kidney. Dad was 70 and his 71st birthday would have been tomorrow. His funeral took place yesterday at St Andrews in Westlands Newcastle where we saw H off with all his family and friends. Dad supported Stoke since the late 40s and saw the good and bad throughout this time. He worked for British Rail in both Stoke and latterly Crewe for almost 40 years as did his Dad Sid Parton, who was a colleague of Zigger Zagga on the railways. My Dad as did his Dad loved going down the match and as the football season begins Saturday it will be the first one without my Old man. Gooooaaaaarrrn Stoke! ! ! For all our lost legends! ! !

Forgot to mention that on exiting the church we had 'we'll be with you' played and it was an upbeat end to the ceremony. Cheers for the messages

Cheers for all your messages. My Dad was born and bred SCFC and was proud to be from North Staffs, being from Cross Heath, a Castle bloke with a heart of Stoke City. Dad was in a privileged position of having free train travel being a BR employee which meant he could follow the team everywhere and he did. Dad has loads of stoke stuff from 50s 60s and 70s plus we'd enjoy many beers in his and me Mums garden sat on his 3 wooden seats from the Vic. Top memories of a top man. First visit to the Brit is gonna be tough

Jonathan. I have just found out about your father.it is really sad news. he was a really great guy who always made me laugh. I had some good banter with him when came to visit his dad. I lived next door to your nan and grandad. I was only thinking of your dad a couple of days. This news really shocked me. I know Saturday Howard and Sid will be with you watching the lads at Liverpool. All the best.

So sorry to hear about your dad Jonny p. H was a terrific bloke, remember him getting us a few pints in the boozer before quite a few home games! He'll be proud of all three of his lads too, a credit to him. God bless H and I hope someday to hear that laugh again and buy you an ale back.
Take care Jon, love to you and all family.

I went through the same with my dad last year, bless him. It was a really bad time, and lots of things still make me choke up a little, but when things affect me and make me remember him it's a good thing as he always seems just that little bit nearer. The start of the footy season will be a prime example as my dad used to love the game and his beloved team.
All the best to you and your family at this very sad time, and RIP to your dad.
