Ive entered the ballot again, 8th rejection in a row probably I was having a conversation with one of the members of a local club circa 250? members. Someone has started to ask around to see if any of their members get in via the ballot and the answer coming back seems to be a resounding no. I suppose there's roughly a 1 in 10 chance of getting in so next year or the year after for you. A lady in our club got in this year, but deferred until next year. Mat who you know, got in twice in a row on his first 2 ballots, its weird how it works ... There's actually 56,000 places but they get about 20% dropouts/deferrals, this year was a record number of people actually making the start line, 42,500

Sad news about the Penkhull Peaks.
I know the bloke that organised the SOTFOR had similar issues.

Unfortunately each we put a plan/solution in place for what they asked it seemed like another popped, came across like they didnt want it to happen with other road races that take place, it was almost like a royal visit compared to their set ups

Yeah, looks like there's someone at the council making life too difficult. They made life difficult for the Potters Arf as well last year and it's laughable when the backdrop is the "City of Sport". I've just spent 5 days in Riga with road closures over two days to accommodate everything from toddlers sprints to the full marathon but our lazy arseholes at the council want an easy life seemingly. Whoever it is needs naming and shaming.

I think you're probably following the standard process in dealing with our friends at the council when promoting sport in the city.
I'll send you a PM.

Ahh, the Safety Advisory Group....."There's absolutely no chance of a fire on the roads of Penkhull but we need you to do a fire safety review in order to justify our existence"
Fair point though Cactus this might just be the year that the roads of Penkhull combust at the exact time of the race.
I reckon there's more chance of Penkhull Homes being reopened and the Child Catcher abducting unsuspecting children off the streets

There's a chance I might leave the oven on π€·ββοΈ Absolutely ludicrous, is it a different story dealing with Newcastle council then? Don't seem to hear any noise about Clayton and Newcastle 10k. What about the Endon 5k, has that had any issues with the council?

Is there a higher prevalence of arsonists up on the hills of Penkhull?

Quite a few things missed out on the radio last night, after from what I knew the main paper work had been done, the race director was then asked for a counter terrorism plan, he said ok, he was then asked for the fire safety, it was mentioned every trip hazard over 20mm needs to be marshalled, we understood every junction would need a Marshall, trying to remember a race in Stoke where every junction had a marshal! This totted upto 110 marshalls, if you look at Newcastle 10k, thats not got this level of paperwork etc, Potts half not got this level!! Be interesting to see if the council respond tonight

3.47.00 at Edinburgh marathon yesterday, thought I was on for sub 3.40, going well but at 19 miles turned into the 7 mile run in which was straight into strong winds, pace dropped from about 8.30 to 9.45. Head was bowed and sideways into at times.

Shuttlingsloe fell race from Crag Hall, Wildboarclough today at 2.45. Proper old school fell race. Run up hill, run back down hill, finish.
Not even 2 miles long but the course record is 15.11 - it's a brutal climb towards the top. Don't attempt without fell shoes today is my advice unless you want to slide down on your bum. Can't wait π

No chance, I didn't do the sneaky little bit either as I have 6 miles easy today. What's the course record then? I smell a challenge. Don't want to make light of a bad situation, but did you have the trophies made already? π

Stone St Michaels 10K on Sunday at 10:00 AM. Fast and furious, a pb course. Or head north for Bosley Fell race on Saturday. 3.15 starting from the fete field opposite the Harrington Arms. 7.5km and only 250m of climbing. A good beginner fell race π

3rd place at Gnosall 10k today.
The 10k was a 7.3 miles long muddy flooded trail run!
Great Thunder Run practice.
